Panasonics optional mic?

I haven't seen any discussions on the optional Panasonic mic for the DVX? Is anyone using it.... what do you think of the quality? I've spent little time with it, but it seemed pretty good for what it is.

Re: Panasonics optional mic?

It's a ripoff for what it is. It should be packaged with every camera for free and even still, I wouldn't use it.

Ok, too radical? ;D

Re: Panasonics optional mic?

It was the only pissed off thing when I first got the camera that it didnt come with. Every single photo of the DVX and all thier ads had the mic on the camera, but they didnt include and didnt say anywhere that it didnt come with it. After the fact though, I am glad it didn't because it made me buy a real microphone.

what did you end up buying?

Re: Panasonics optional mic?

I orignally bought the equally priced SA-568, the omni pattern is weak and noisey but the Tele is very good. Of course for a $150 mic it doesnt have the best freq. range, but its better then the onboards. I have a pair of the G2 wireless Lavs that I have grown to love,

Re: Panasonics optional mic?

well I go'em free. can't complain. using AT pro88 VHF cheapos on top of this.

what can I say ? I don't have Jarred's budgets... hehe.

Re: Panasonics optional mic?

I just bought and tested some of those Pro88's. They're a little limited in features, no gain or frequency selection, but my God, for the money, it blows away anything in its path. I had one of the other reps wear the lav and walk out of the warehouse. Until he closed the door behind him, I was still getting good reception with no dropouts up to 50'. ;D Considering you can do two channels for under $300, it's a good deal.
