Panasonic's first-person 4K cam

Looks like they are putting 4K stickers on old cameras.
No kidding, this is so weird. It looks like Panasonic's 4k sticker factory went into overdrive in preparation for CES. Hey, don't knock it - they could make some decent money selling some good-looking 4k stickers! :)

That would probably be the best thing to do over the next year or two. Then you can create shock and awe with your 4k badge of honor while you continue to deliver on DVD to the masses of "normal" folks!

Good lord. 4K shoot and share cameras? Really? And the manufacturers wonder why they keep losing money hand over fist.
Wait, you didn't hear about the Barbie Video Girl Doll 4K(TM) announcement? And the accompanying Fisher Price My First 4K Editing Station(R)? :)

Seriously though, Sony also announced a 4K action cam. Panasonic is not alone.

Those of us who edit footage know what the impact of 4K is.

The marketing seems to be, let make a 4K T (never mind how little 4K content there is). Next, make 4K cameras so that people can produce output only to find the have to downgrade it on delivery to many customers).

The idea seems to be the customer goes out and buys a 4K TV so they don't have to take downgraded media.

I figure my priorities are lighting, sound, video so I am not about to go out and replace my 2K videocam with a 4K cam.

I am sure if I were to go in this direction, as I would leave the store, a truck with 8K capabilities would be arriving at the back door.

What size TV does one need to see a difference between a 4K recording and an 8K recording?

Glad I did not go for a 3D camcorder at the time the big push for these was on.

Introducing something new like this always creates a chicken/egg problem. I remember in 2002-ish when HDnet was brand new and they looped the same 8-12hrs of HD content day after day.

Video games are the same way: A new console comes out, it's way too expensive and buggy and the games are limited and mostly lame. Wait a few years, the games get better, the console is a tenth of the price and not buggy anymore. Adopt. Early adopters always suffer for it. I remember when HD was super limited and super expensive. Now it's a flexible, quality medium. I'm sure 4K will get there, but it's gonna take some time. But I guess we need early adopters to get it there. I like to think of them as unfortunate beta testers : )
