i know that using sony tapes in a panasonic deck is a big mistake, due to lubrication on the sony tapes...i was wondering if panasonic tapes are ok to use in sony decks?
Never had a problem with using Panasonic tapes in my Sony Deck. However, if after capturing or playback from a number of Panasonic tapes, then I switch to capture something from a TDK tape, I'll get some strange occurences. Mainly the lines across the screen. I believe it's due from the decks heads going from dry-lube tapes to wet-lube. Usually it just takes a few attempts and everything works fine.
which sony deck do you use because i'm looking for comments about the DSR-11 and DSC-25. DSR-45 is kinda too expensive if it's only have XLR I/O more than the DSR-25. And does the DSR-25 only have a 2in display and a audio level more than the DSR-11 because if so, not sure if it worth the price (1000$ more)
Ronik, I had this very same question and posted on the apple forums.
only difference between the DSR 11 & 25 is the monitor and time code display.
The DSR 45 though has the same durability as DSR 1500A. (The guy I bought my DVX from told me it has the same motor/heads) which makes is very durable.
I went to another place that rents out equipment, ironically, some customers there were having a conversation about the DSR 11 and one guy was really pissed about it's durability. (Caused them lots of problems)
If you plan on getting the DSR 11 or 25, make sure you take extra precaution because they are not too sturdy of a deck. Some people have had no problems. Others have had many problems with them. The people with problems I have heard from, do the same type of usage I do. So I probably won't go with it. The people without the problems, seem to be mostly wedding videographers or other editing which doesn't involve precise batch capturing.
The people who haven't had as many problems, seem to be ones who don't need to do alot of "to the frame" batch capturing, don't need to move the deck, etc... It's also not recommended to move it around alot (like taking it on set with you etc...)
I was going to get the DSR 11 myself, but I may just save up the extra 2 grand and get the DSR 45. I use a 45 at work and we've run over 2000 hours on it of all tapes. No problems. The on-screen menu and switches on the front from dv,component, are very very convenient to have. If you need a VTR, try to bum it for awhile and just record off a $300 miniDV camera until you can get the 45.
ok I will think about it! I'm going to use it more for personnal use not for industrial. I'm planning to do wedding videos soon because I think it's a good place too start if I want to get some money otherwise, I don't know what I could do to earn money. (Money is very important if I want to buy accessories for my dvx )
