Panasonic new prototype at NAB

Re: Panasonic new prototype at NAB

Sweet? Maybe yes, maybe no.

16:9-Definately nice, if it's native (which it appears to be)

24p-Nice, but we already have that in the DVX100(a)

tapeless recording-in theory, nice. The SD cards are nowhere near the storage/price point they need to be yet, though. Panasonic may lose this format war to Sony purely on price.

3 CCD's-again, we already have that. And how big are these new CCD's in this camera that is smaller than a DVX100(Could they be putting the Sony chips from the PD X10 in that box)? If they are smaller than 1/3" than it's a step backward. I'd rather have 1/2" chips stuffed into a camera the size of the DVX100 than a smaller camera.

What format is this recording? If it's MPEG4, with present technology I see this as a step backward.

So in summary, paying more for this camera to get 16:9 and possibly take steps backward in other areas doesn't look so sweet to me.

Then again when it comes out I could be totally wrong, and forced to eat my e-mail... :o

Re: Panasonic new prototype at NAB

Looks too small. MPEG format would scare me off... Other than that, seems cool.

I'm glad they are thinking of some alternatives to tape, tape is a lousy format and it needs to go. I seriouly like the idea of those quickstreamDV harddrives, they are so small that we could possibly see harddrives built into cameras one day?

Re: Panasonic new prototype at NAB

Guys, that was shown at LAST year's NAB; the article is from 4-03. So draw your own conclusions as to what's being done with that.

Re: Panasonic new prototype at NAB

 ;D

but still.. the sweet thing is that if such a small low end handycam will do what our own DVX is doing (and more?!), then there would be some other professional model on top of it for us... that's the way it goes isn't it

one thing for sure.. i'm going to take a vacation from waiting to the "next thing". all this NAB fever left me with one conclusion: i should be more than happy to have this camera, only thing left is to go out and shoot. and now really

hope to hold it up for at least 2 years with my DVX, unless i win the lottery (but i never send lottery.. so maybe if my mom will win the lottery)

Re: Panasonic new prototype at NAB

You can record without tape NOW, if you strap the MCE QuickStream drive onto you cam and you can load the results right into FCP instantly. There's a review here at DVXUser.

Camcorderinfo.com is the very reason I installed PanicWare's Pop-up Stopper.

Of course, after I installed pop-up-stopper, I was actually able to read what they wrote on that site.

So I quit going there.

Re: Panasonic new prototype at NAB

jesus that was well put Barry.. your getting some humour in ya :)

Yes they had that thing At NAB this year, believe it or not that thing was made out of Balsa. I like the way they are pushing the p2 cards, I just hope they get really big and really cheap really quick.
