Panasonic HVX200 Compression question?

I have never recorded sound onto this camera before and the production does not want to pay for a seperate recorder. Is this going to compress to buggery the lovely sound I send into it? Should I try to urge production into hiring a seperate system or get them to spend the money hiring a Sennheiser MKH 40 for the interiors instead?

Ok, I think i've answered the question myself. The HVX200 does not compres the audio signal and therefore I should be more than happy to send it a line level signal from my sqn mixer.

Next, question is will I be able to utilize the 4 tracks on the HVX by copying CH1 and Ch 2 onto CH 3 and Ch4 at a slightly lower/higher levels for headroom safety?

you cant copy 1and 2 to 3 and 4 , maximum you can record the internal mic to 3 and 4
his camera is 2 chenel from your point of view

be aware that on 2 out of about 10 hvx200 I have worked with I have had sound issues on camera. Recording on tape no problem. On p2 there was a very low level "squeak" . When using p2 in dvcpro mode the squeak doubled in speed reoccorence. Sounds like a wheel that needs to be oiled.

In addition I have had issues with wireless video transmitted from RCA out of camera. Makes noise on audio channels. Probably a grounding issue. Hopefuly you can test the cam you are using first
