Panasonic HPX170 Price Drop...New Camera On Way?

It should be interesting. I do think The HPX170 will be the last sub 5K dollar P2 camera. I hope I am wrong.

I get the impression that news organizations like having a cheap and small camera in the field that perfectly fits into their P2 workflow.

The new price for the AG-HPX170 reflects the fact that it no longer ships with a P2 card. The HVX200A had the same kind of changes not too long ago. Conveniently enough, the P2 cards themselves have just dropped in price as well.

Dealers always sell cameras at a lower profit than the manufacturer. I.e. a 1000$ price drop from the list price of Panasonic doesn't mean the dealer will get 1000$ price drop and can give a equivalent savings to end clients.

Very true! List price went from 4895.00 to 3795.00. Street price from around 3700.00 to around 3400.00.

Just wanted to clarify, this is a special promotion that B&H is running only. There are no new price changes on the HVX or current rebates through Panasonic. More than likely it's a special to move some overstock, that is an incredible price, one that (unfortunately for us) other dealers won't be able to match.
