Panasonic hmc40/41 and CS5

I have some questions about what sequence settings I should use in Premiere pro at work, when I have shot the footage on a panasonic hmc41 (the euro version) in 1080/25p.

1.
When I add the footage to my project and drag one clip down to "new item", it creates a new sequence. If I then go into the sequence settings I can see that it is 1080i and either upper or lower fields first (can't rember right now :) ). When I add footage to the timeline it gets a yellow render bar over the footage.
So now I'm guessing that this the same as choosing the AVCHD 1080 25i (50i) in sequence preset, or what?

2.
But on the panasonic hmc41 it says on the camcorder screen that it is recording in 1080/25p, so should I then use the AVCHD 1080/25p sequence preset?
I also found this:
http://pro-av.panasonic.net/en/sales_o/avchdcomp/AG-HMC40.html#anchor001

Here is says that for 1080/25P you should choose AVCHD 1080p25.
When I choose AVCHD 1080p25 sequence preset and add my footage to the timeline, a red render bar appears over the footage

So I ask which method is the correct one and what is the difference?
And what role does the yellow and red bar over the timeline footage play?

Thank you for your help

Best regards
Lars

What you are seeing is a bug in CS5.

CS5 interprets progressive AVCHD as interlaced but there is an easy fix, but it must be done on all footage you import. Here is an example for how to do it on one clip:
1. Right click on the clip in the Project panel
2. Choose Modify > Interpret Footage
3. Under Field Order, select Conform to and change it from Upper Field First to No Fields (Progressive Scan).

Now, you should not get a red render bar abowe the footage when you place it on a progressive Timeline.

You can use interpret Footage on multiple clips, so it can be fixed fast and efficient in one go. :)

Hey, tanks for the response, I'll try that next time.

I have been searching some more on the web, found out that the camera records something called 1080/25p over 50i.
Is that something I have to consider when making a project?

I have also opened the footage in VLC-player and looked under the codec information, and saw that it had a frame rate of 50. What is that about?

As there is no defined 25p HD standard, which means it cannot be broadcast or burned to Blu-ray, you might want to consider using either 25i or 50p for future shoots.
