Panasonic Drops Price of Varicam LT to $9,995.00!

A camera like this will naturally have bulk...that adapter would add very little.

Now the control panel is wildly, unnecessary bulky. There should be a window on the side instead.

You're right, and it's because of the natural bulkiness that I'm hesitant to add to it unnecessarily. Can you control the camera without the control panel? Sometimes I run my C200 without the Canon monitor and it's fine. If the LT needs that thing attached at all times that'd be a downside too.

That would be a question for Mitch or someone else because I'm not 100% sure, but I do know that you use it (and it makes it easier) for many of the camera's critical functions, and it would be more difficult to adjust some of them if you had to dive into the menu each time.

It appears that the Ninja V, in particular though, doesn't support Prores RAW recording today, but is "in development" to record it from the Nikon Z6. No specifics about Varicam LT support that I can find.

It appears the new Shogun 7 would support Prores RAW? I think? But confused about the 5.7K, it says on the Atomos specs that is only supported from the EVA 1?

Atomos has said the Shogun 7 definitely will do ProRes RAW. The reason for EVA1 note it the Shogun 7's single SSD can't write fast enough to record CDNG so ProRes RAW is the only option Atomos supports. The Shogun Inferno has the same note on it's spec page.

Changing plates is elementary, as long as you get the right plate. Usually four screws and the tiny two-wire connector.

Call a real dealer, like Abel, that has reps that know this stuff.

Coming from an FS7, the control panel is a dream. I’ve done a couple of shoots with it so far, and on sticks it makes working much faster. As long as you can stay within the constraints of the codec and frame rate (otherwise there’s a required restart) you can change settings in an instant. The FS7 is a maze of menus and sub menus, and even after years of use, it’s just very cumbersome going through to change everything. Literally on my first shoot with the LT I was switching from 1080p crop to 1080 crop @120fps, swapping shutter speed etc in an instant. Also, when shooting handheld I aim it to the back for a little extra counter weight.

You don't have to have it. The controls on the operator side of the camera will get you there too. Oppenheimer Cine makes an extension plate that attaches to the front of the camera so that you can place it at the front of the camera instead of the back if you wish.

The reason 5.7K is only supported from the EVA1 is because that's the only camera that outputs that. The VariCam LT outputs in 4K, UHD, 2K, HD.

If I understood Dan's question, he was asking about the following note on the Shogun 7's Tech Spec page: "5.7K DCI; 24/25/30p (EVA1 ProRes RAW only)." As this is the only camera on the page with explictly stated support for ProRes RAW it might give the impression that there isn't ProRes RAW support with other cameras. Dan please let me know if I misunderstood your question.

My answer came from your excellent response that I remembered to the same question in a thread last year where you said the CNDG resolution limitation was related to the single SSD in the Atomos recorders.

The Atomos products are supposed to add 5.7K ProRes RAW/ProRes RAW HQ up to 30p shortly.
The resolution/frame rate limitations on CinemaDNG are due to the data throughput capacity of a SATA bus, which is how the SSD connects to the recorder.

While in theory the dual SSDs of the Odyssey7Q+ would allow for recording CinemaDNG in all resolutions & frame rates from the EVA1, Convergent Design has not announced support for the camera at this time.

You could get a V-mount plate through Panasonic but honestly it would be cheaper to buy one from IDX or CoreSWX. I think they're only $100 or so. Just some screws and a Molex connector away.

Thanks Mitch. I’m really, really considering making this move.

Canon doing another price drop.

C300mkII is now $8,999

C200B with a slightly more modest reduction: $4,999

And the actual C200 (not the C200B body only) is down $1000 to $6499 as well.......
Interesting.....

Definitely no less useful, and yet a more compelling price.

Though, if you buy these new and can get work, definitely worth buying right away. I just don’t need any of these cameras, so i end up a generation or two behind.

I would buy new if they made what i wanted. But they don’t.

Taking the C200 as an example, what does it lack, that if added, would make you buy? Huge laundery list or one or two key items?
