Panasonic BT-H1390Y, broadcastsote.com?

So, I'm gearing up for a shoot this November, and am looking at the Panasonic BT-H1390Y monitor. B & H and EVS don't seem to carry it. Does anybody have any experience with broadcaststore.com? Seems to be the only place on-line that lists this monitor (besides ebay, yikes). I did call them, but they don't have any in stock. Is this monitor old news or what?

Any help would be great.

By the way. I'll be using an HVX + 35mm adapter. I'm planning on using my Marshall 7" at the camera for focus/framing, and a CRT (SMPTE-C) monitor for the director and for CC in post.

If you all have any better solutions or input that would be great as well.

I work about two blocks from The Broadcast Store. They are a used gear store that always has outrageously high prices that you try to negotiate down to something that is viable.

Why on earth would you choose to monitor an HVX HD signal with a discontinued 4x3 NTSC industrial monitor? This monitor will not monitor the HD signal from the HVX so you would be reduced to monitoring a composite or Y/C signal, neither of which give enough resolution to know if you are in focus.

If you are on a tight budget, there are consumer HD monitors with considerably more resolution for was little as $350.00.

If you have a decent budget, the Panasonic professional 17" LCD would be a superior choice, weigh less, is 16x9 and has all kinds of cool features like a built in waveform, etc.

There are much better choices that this for monitoring an HVX.

I don't think the idea is all that crazy. As I stated, I will be using the monitor as a director's monitor during production and then for color correcting during post. From what I have read, SMPTE-C CRT's are still trusted as accurate for color correcting. Unless I'm missing something here, both the HVX and the Panasonic BT-H1390Y monitor have component... so I should be getting 720 lines when shooting 720p and 750 lines when shooting 1080 (since the monitor has 750 vertical lines of resolution).

I will be using my 7" Marshall for checking focus. Though it would still seem that the 750-800 lines of vertical resolution of the CRT's that I have been looking at would be fine for 720p. That is... unless there is something that I am missing as to how it would connect to the HVX. Both have component, so I don't see a problem there. Of course, I would probably need a card/adapter to hook it up to my G5.

My two favorite words are tight and budget, but I doubt I can get a color accurate monitor for the purposes that I mentioned in my original post for $350.

The panny BT-LH1700W looks nice, but might be questionable for visually checking the color and exposure as notable by this thread:

Now for waveform and checking focus, that monitor would be great. Again though, I will be using my 7" Marshall to check focus. For this project, I won't be needing a waveform monitor in the field, and I can always use FCP's in post to match clips.. etc.

There are much better choices that this for monitoring an HVX.

Know of any good SMPTE-C CRT options?
