Panasonic announces UX180 and UX90 pricing & availability

Something I quickly did many days ago right before I was to return the camera. I finally decided to edit and upload it. Looking back, I wish I did it when their was a little bit more light. I set the camera to auto for the "normal" mode because the green and white mode is locked in auto. It really stinks that you're not able to adjust the gain, shutter and ND. I had a good idea for a video and I couldn't do it because of that.

Still have a martial arts video to edit and upload that I shot in 4K 60p. Have not given myself a chance to do that yet. I'll be doing normal and slow motion sequences.

Any thoughts on trying to use the UX 180 or HC-X1 with a Sony FS700R for a 2 camera 4K shoot?
The Sony would have an external recorder for 4K wheras 4K UHD internal for the Panasonic.

I know Sony and Panasonic have always had a different "look" and I've had to match mine in post.
Possibly the image adjustments available in these new Panasonics would allow for enough manipulation to help get close and then the extra color space of the External recorder used with the Sony would allow extra flexibility in post to match pretty well??
Or is this just a bad idea?

I generally recommend always formatting the card in-camera before each project. Sometimes people think it's okay to format the cards in a computer, and it isn't -- you have to format it in the camera. I don't know if that would be related to your problem or not though, if it works fine before...

Something strange happened, I never did delete the files from the SDXC card and couple days ago I put the card in the pc and got an error for corrupt card and windows wanted to fix the card, I skipped and went to the files to find the two bad files displayed with thumbnails this time. I was able to copy them to PC and they playback fine.

I frequently use an external monitor when I am shooting. Just started using the AG-UX180 a couple of weeks ago and really like the camera so far.

On my previous camcorders I have been able to choose whether or not I want the camera markings that appear on the camera LCD screen to appear on my external monitor. So far I have not been able to find an option to make the camera LCD markings to appear on my external monitor.

Anyone have an insight on this ?

There is an option in the DISP SETUP section of the Menu labeled VIDEO OUT OSD to control this. However, it doesn't work when recording in 4K or UHD (it's automatically set to off, so there is no way to get the on-screen displays on an external monitor when recording in these modes).

Well....that would explain it! I am shooting UHD 60p. I am sure there is a reason for it, but that seems like an odd control to be affected, especially considering that this is a 4K/UHD camera.....thanks for the answer

Bad news for those that want to find a different model than Panasonic or ASUS N53 vA1 USB 2.0 WiFi dongle.

As it's impossible to find ASUS N53 A1 in the market any more I try to find some other model with the same chipset.

I detect that Tenda W522U have the same chipset as ASUS N53 USB 2.0 (Ralink RT3572)
https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Tenda_W522U
https://wikidevi.com/wiki/ASUS_USB-N53

But unfortunately it doesn't work on my Panasonic UX180 :( (I am too close to believe that Panasonic check the manufacture and cut it)

I too disappointment about Panasonic on WiFi support

- 1st they made AG ROP only for iPad (ok I can live with it)
- 2nd they say that ASUS N53 vA1 supported but it's impossible to find it on the market. Even shops that saying that it have it, they just don't. They have only B1 version and even if their catalog said that is A1 version it is not. Products are similar and if you don't read the box you can't understand the difference (nice trick Panasonic, clever)
- 3nd AG Rop it's a good app but not the best and it's very limited.
- 4th the price of the Panasonic AJ-WM50P is about 160$. No, if they don't add a live feed on the features of the camera I don't want pay that... this is steal.

My conclusion, maybe Panasonic sould think all about it and have 2 choices :
- 1st to import a lot WiFi features (live stream, ftp, andoid support) so someone that he wants to pay 160$ to get something really useful
- 2nd to support other newer and cheaper USB dongle.

All the others it's just something bad, maybe they have to stop saying that Panasonic UX180 (and other similar models) support WiFi. This is not exactly true.

Hey Barry

I downloaded the AG-UX180 you wrote, great and informative writing as usual

I was perusing the section on exposure and noticed you discussed calibrating your field monitor for each new recording environment. I found this interesting as I frequently use a field monitor when shooting. What calibrations would you specifically adjust when working in the field. The first thing that comes to mind is color temperature, anything else ?

Thanks

This video been on my channel for a while but I never felt like sharing it yet since I was sort of fooling around with the settings. I decided to do it now. Still have some martial arts videos that I need to edit and upload.

Here's another:

Kung Fu / Martial arts demonstrations 4K 60p.

I should have uploaded this a long time ago. Still have yet to do some cool videos in which I take some of these clips and slow some of the moves down mixed with normal motion.

So as I understand, the Panasonic FZ2500 is similar in many ways to the HC-X1 and UX180....20X zoom, 1" sensor...etc
It lacks 60P in 4K but seems like an economical alternative or possibly B-cam if you can work around no XLR and the form factor.
What are you guys' thoughts on this?
I wonder if it can record long durations without overheating?

Can anyone tell me which Zoom/Focus/Iris remote controls are compatible with UX180. Is Panasonic UX180 LANC compatible?

The UX180 will not work with LANC controllers since Panasonic has its own protocol for external controllers. Most zoom controllers designed for Panasonic cameras mention this explicitly. There are a few controllers that are designed for both LANC (Sony/Canon) and Panasonic protocols which have a physical switch to select between the two.

This thread about zoom controllers for the DVX200 may also be useful, as I would expect the UX180 to be similar:

I have used the VariZoom controllers designed for Panasonic cameras and they work with the UX180 in addition to the DVX200. They make a few different styles of controller:

Thanks for sharing. Camera looks nice. Did you get rid of the camera? as the YouTube description says "when I had the camera".

I've got the HC X1 and as davedv says, the Varizoom controllers are good. I initially bought (then returned) a Libec version which allowed focus control as well as zoom, but the aperture switched to auto, so I found it unusable.
