Panasonic AG-LA7200 Anamorphic Lens Question

Hi,

I am thinking of purchasing the AG-LA7200 adapter for use with my films. I was wondering if it is worth the cost and how much better is the image quality? Is there any image loss? Also, I have heard that there can be focus issues? Any help is greatly appreciated! Oh please don't tell me to buy the lens guide as I would rather not spend money on something that I might not use :(

Thanks so much for your help!

Best regards,

Mark

The guide is cheap. Well worth the cost if you are even thinking of buying the lens.

Man, what is it $12, and I don't even have the lens. I just rented it for a shoot. The guide is worth it even if you are just thinking about using the Anamorphic adapter.

Re: Panasonic AG-LA7200 Anamorphic Lens Question

Scharky's right -- $12 is a minor expense when it will help you decide whether or not you want to spend $800 on the lens.

The guide explains a lot about quality issues of anamorphic vs. lettebox vs. squeezed -- so I think it will answer the original question.

Also, think of it as giving something back to Barry Green -- who has given so much to all of us here.

Re: Panasonic AG-LA7200 Anamorphic Lens Question

There was a poll done here a while ago that asked the populace here about whether or not to use an anamorphic adapter. If I remember correctly, the poll came out at exactly 50% in favor, and 50% against!

I have had excellent results from renting the Panny adaptor, and have seen that work projected on the large screen, so I am in favor of it. However, you will get a lot more milage out of the lens if you have a monitor capable of 16:9 display, so you can see what you are getting.

We've not yet committed to buying the adaptor, though we love it; so far we've done three shoots and rented it each time for $50/day. We figure that we've got to go ahead and buy it if we do another production where we need one for one or more days.
