have you considered a small camera for an editing deck? 3 or 400$?? just a thought..

Re: panasonic ag-dv2500 dv deck

seems like the panny 2500 and dsr-11 are the way to go in that price range for a professional deck head w/ the majority leaning toward the dsr-11. proven workhorse while others are worried because the panny deck is exactly like the jvc brand which seems to not have a good track record.

Re: panasonic ag-dv2500 dv deck

The JVC BR-DV3000 and the Panasonic 2500 are identical. I've got the JVC and it's a pretty good deck with a lot of features. It was also a couple hundred less than the DSR-11. However, if I had it to do over again, I think I'd go with the DSR-11, just for the ability to master tapes in DVCAM format, which should prove more dropout-proof. When I got the deck I was primarily doing 30-second commercials and dropouts were never a problem, but shortly after getting it I landed a half-hour TV show gig, and mastering a half-hour show with no dropouts whatsoever proved to be a little troublesome. I think I'd rather have the safety of the DVCAM format.

If all you're doing is short-form stuff the JVC/Panasonic deck is excellent. If you think you'll need to supply long-form stuff and need the extra dropout protection afforded by DVCAM, go with the Sony.
