Panasonic 3D Camera

sure that is real? I am doubting it.

It seems to lack features which are NEEDED for real 3d production work. Poor design.

Im asking my self "How can you add a filter to it?"

Wait... 3d cameras dont need filters... do they?

also it looks like you cant set the interocular distance on this and the convergence which are both very key to good 3d production.

It's not a real product. It's a conceptual prototype. They have it in a glass case, I'm sure the lens is a block of wood, it's not intended for actual production. It's really more to announce to the world that Panasonic thinks 3D is the next big thing, and they intend to be highly pro-active in establishing themselves as the #1 3-D company.

what has been the timeframe of previous panasonic announcements moving from conceptual protoypes to actual cameras you can purchase? when should we expect something like this to come out?

I sure I've seen something similar done with two DVX100's only those ones was actually working and not a mock up.

I'm going back and forth on the Issue of calling these stereo videos "3D", technically it is "yes and no";

yes in the sense if you could overcome the correspondence problem you could compute the 3D depth for every visible pixel (however) this would only cover the FOV of what the lens can capture, 'full' 3D would require the capture of 360 degrees around an object.

I think in this case, you have to go with the popular vernacular, it will be known henceforth as 3D because Hollywood wants to market it that way. Huge initiative as far as the entertainment industry, this will be our modern equivalent to Cinerama, Cinescope and VistaVision, it will be the latest thing to get people back into the theaters and to raise grosses for the people who still do go to theaters.

Problem is for Hollywood that companies like Panasonic will have it in the home really quickly, an issue that they didn't have to worry about with widescreen movie formats in the 50s. Once you have a 70" 3D OLED in your living room, why go to the theater?

im so nervous that soon even dramas and such will be shot in 3d.... Sigh.....

Its so goddamn lame.... i hate 3D

I'll take a normal film any day. I'm not interested in 3D...not unless it's an animated film or something at the theater, then it's a fun ride but not narratives and dramas.

Meh...
