Pan/Crop Question

I have actually two questions. First, how do you include a picture in your post. I did a search, but found nothing appropriate.

And now, to my Vegas question: I would like to put one clip on top of the other. I shot one of the scenes with the wanted footage in the middle (see the picture at www.24kblack.com/vegasprob.htm). How do I move the image to the top of the screen, even though the actual footage that I want to use resides in the middle of the screen? I cropped the middle area, but I don't know how to move that area up (and subsuquently have the other footage cropped (not sure that is the right term) below it).

Any help (as detailed as possible for this amateur) would be appreciated. Thanks.

Use Pan/Crop when you can, as that will provide better resolution. Zoom way out in the Pan/Crop dialog, then pull the Pan/Crop so it's large. you'll quickly see how to place the image where you want it.

Okay, I may have not been clear. If you see the picture on the right. I want to cut the black portion and move the motion video portion from the center of the screen to the top of the screen. I know how to put the focus on that part of the scene, but I can't figure out how to move that portion to the top of the video window, so that I can then put something else under it.

Is that still accomplished through Pan/Crop? How?

That page comes up "not found."

Anyway, it sounds like you only want to move PART of the image, right? Not the whole thing?

Use pan/crop to cut it and enlarge it (if you need to enlarge it), then use 2D track motion (its default setting) to move it where you need it. If you're trying to move the ENTIRE image, what Spot says is the best way to go. But if you want to isolate part of it, you can't then move it around the screen.

I'm a lawyer by trade, so the creative stuff is not necessarily second nature to me. Spot, I read your post regarding use of pan/crop vs. track motion, but I am still lost. I am trying to do a split screen effect. Two different video scenes. One on top and one on the bottom. The thing is, I want the one on top to only be comprised of the middle 25r% of that video image. Then I want the screen on the bottom to be comprised of 75% of the other scene. Make sense?

So heres the revised questions (pardon me, as I think my jargon was off in my previous posts):

1) How do I actually "crop" the portion of the video that I want? I have the box with the "F" in the middle set up how I would like to crop it, but when I try to move the box to the top of the screen, the box moves but I lose the video image I want.

2) After then after "cropping" the image, how do I place it where I want it to be? I don't want it to zoom there. I just want it there from the beginning of the sequence.

I hope this makes a little bit more sense. And many thanks, once again.

In the Pan Crop dialot, look under "workspace". You'll see a Zoom tool in there. Zoom out, so the image is small in the workspace. Now pull the Pan/Crop tool OUT, and you'll see your image get smaller and smaller, and by moving the pan/crop target around, you'll see it move your frame around. If you want to crop part of that image out, I'd use a Bezier mask on it as well, or use a blend of Pan/Crop and Track Motion.
If you want to mail me a frame, I'll see if I can accomplish what you're describing. I can't picture it in my mind, but maybe with some additional explanation, I will.

Thanks everyone! I wasn't able to do anything with the pan/crop tool, so I reinstalled Vegas and voila. Now everything you guys were saying makes perfect sense.
