Pan/Crop OK. Rotate...Uh-Oh

Using Pan/Crop to cut it down to 2.35:1 - No problem.
Zooming in by shrinking the rectangle - No problem.

But Zooming in and then Rotating a bit to correct the horizon....it looks great in Vegas, but when rendered (wmv), I'm getting black bars at left and right.

It's like the renderer is saying to itself "Hmm...from the far left corner to the far right corner is 715 pixels, but the near left and right is only 710. I'll use the minum and just put some black in to fill it."

Badly explained, I know. But do you know what I mean? I can't show an example because it only shows up in the final render...and Windows won't let me grab a copy.

Hi GenGerDan

I tried doing what you stated in Vegas

I made a mask using PAN/CROP and purposely Zoomed and Tilted. I rendered WMV and did it with STRETCH VIDEO (DO NOT LETTERBOX) AND Without and am also seeing this even in Full Screen Mode; however...

When rendering a MOV file it does not happen.

Ah hah! A bug in the WMV rendering engine!

Who would have thought there would be a problem with a Microsoft item.

I just tried to replicate the problem and I couldn't. No black bars on the sides.

You can bring the WMV file into Vegas and capture a still from it to illustrate.

Possibilities -- did you make sure to preserve the aspect ratio when you zoomed in? Are you rendering as Widescreen or as 4:3?

Hi David!

I had the same problem viewing at Full Screen not as a small floating window. I personally rendered at 4:3 using letterbox.

which version of vegas and which version of WMV are you guys using? Aren't you still using 4 John? Maybe the bug has been fixed in vegas 5.

I've already de-rotated. I'll try later...gotta go to work now.

But, yes, aspect preserved.

As for the render: shot squeeze, cropped to 720x306, then rendered as 360x152 with 1.2121 pixels.

(Oh. Vegas 5)

OK. Found the previous version. Grab at a transition point for better illustration, and a clip for no particular reason. http://www.changedcrocodile.com/Films/Untitled.wmv

Not discounting the possibility that I screwed up the "preserve aspect" bit, but unlikely. I was just going from event to event, cropping, and only the rotating ones got messed up. Does rotating automatically de-preserve the aspect ratio and you have to reclick?
