Pan/Crop Headache

I'm working in Vegas Pro 8.0 on a project shot at 1080-24pa. My video template is HD 1080-24p and other than that all settings are default.

Here's my problem: whenever I open up the pan/crop window to do a simple zoom or crop of any of my video files, rather than cropping it wants to stretch or compress the file so none of the image is lost. Instead it squeezes it or squashes it. What's going on?

There are a bunch of strange things happening that are difficult to describe - the bottom line is that pan/crop isn't working the way it should. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Changed it back to Best, restarted Vegas, still the same problem. And now, on top of that, Event FX won't work at all. Tried Black and White, Add Noise, Colour Correction, nothing in the preview window changes.

Is this all a Raylight thing? Maybe a reinstall is required?

You probably have all FX disabled -- uncheck the box which is a circle in a square, above the preview window.

You're sure it's on Good or Best after the restart?

Yes! Got my FX back, thanks.

But the pan/crop headache persists. It's on "Raylight Blue [Max Quality, not Real Time]". I restart, and still get stretching instead of zooming and cropping.

No, I mean the preview quality in Vegas, not in Raylight. You probably have it on "Preview" or "Draft" -- change it to "Good" or "Best." It's above the window.
