hey,
does any of the new palmsize minidv's with megapixel ccds offer true 16x9?
Need it for places the dvx is to heavy/big to take...

Re: Palm size 16x9 cam ?

I guess that depends on what you mean by “true 16x9.” If you mean, do any of them have 16x9 CCDs, then no. You need to go up considerably higher on the food chain for that.

Dude -- Try lugging a Sony 570 around all day on your shoulder... You'll be buying 5 DVXs after that day.

Oh, yeah...

Well back in my day we didn't have any weenie Sony 570s...

If you wanted to record on video you had to put an Ikegami 79 on your right shoulder and hang a 15lb. U-Matic deck from your left shoulder.

That's the way it was and we LIKED it! ;) ;D

Sorry, don't know of any true 16x9 palmcorders... but, I'll bet they're on the way.

Re: Palm size 16x9 cam ?

Not "true" 16:9 CCDs, but you'll find that there are several smaller cams that offer high quality 16:9 recording. My trv38 offers a really nice-looking 16:9, for instance.

Speaking of heavy cams... about once or twice a month, I do some work for a company that uses a big Ikegami HL45AW. The thing must weigh in the neighborhood of 35-40 pounds. That's pretty fun to haul around for 10-14 hours. :P

Re: Palm size 16x9 cam ?

You guys are all wusses. Try running out of track for your dolly and having to put it, as well as the camera and director on your back, and walk at a steady enough pace to pass for a dolly shot. ;)

Re: Palm size 16x9 cam ?

Ok fellas..........Have you tried the Pana GS-400 ? I just got back from a few weeks in Fiji and shot every day with it in 16:9 and 4:3 and the 16 :9 is unbeleivable! It's supposed to be true 16:9 and offers Cinegamma and a pretty cool psuedo 30 frame rate as well as excellent OIS , and weighs in at 1.5 LB,s! Cons are no slow shutter speeds .......only 1/60 ! I'm used to my DVX but this is phenomenal for travel and 2nd cam! Personally speaking, if you are used to the DVX, then this is the smallest cam that you will find acceptible! Plenty of manual control..........surprising stealth camera! It has been critisized as having a soft look..............I beg to differ with 12 hours of tape shot! DVXers....................Check this cam out! Prices are in the $1100's now!
