PAL to NTSC, plugin required?

I have some PAL HDV footage that I need to convert to NTSC.

It has been imported as PAL DV Anamorphic. I downloaded the Conversion plugin demo from Nattress to convert it to NTSC. I converted it through the plugin, but I also exported the PAL material without a pluin to NTSC through Quicktime Conversion. When played back on my reference monitor they look identical.

Is there something special that the Nattress plugin does, or is it simply the same as the Quicktime Conversion to NTSC?

Thanks!

PAL and NTSC can be edited on a multiformat timeline with automatic conversion. The important thing to figure out is whether you can PAL converted to NTSC or vice-versa and set the timeline for that.

The clip that was exported to NTSC with no plugin, was in a NTSC Timeline. Once, it was exported it was opened up in FCP but not placed in a Timeline, and played back in FCP and on the monitor and it plays fine.

Now, is this an acceptable way of converting PAL to NTSC, or would I be better off to use the Nattress plugin?

It's your call- quality wise Nattress is still better but you should run some tests to see what works for you.

I also have a Pal to NTSC question. If you cut your project in PAL can you lay off your PAL projcect on to tape to NTSC just by switching your deck back over to NTSC settings during layoff?

MY DSR-11 on the back has switchable NTSC and PAL in the back.

I have a question. Does anyone have an opinion whether an Alchemist conversion is really THAT much better then the Nattress plug in?
