So I recently offered to assist a friend in an edit that they screwed up. Some footage was looking terribly choppy in the quicktime file I watched and realized that some footage was NTSC and some was PAL... and it was the PAL that looked bad.
So I get the hard drive and saw that every timeline was somehow set to PAL even if it was completely NTSC footage.
It is a mixture of DVCPRO HD from an HVX, HDV1080i from both sony and canon, PAL DV footage from who knows what, and some canon vixia SD footage as well.
I have converted single clips in compressor to NTSC from PAL and they looked much better, but for instance.... one sequence is all PAL. I exported that as a self contained QT... did the same compressor work on it as the single clip from before, and when I got that on DVD with the rest... it looks like garbage. certain clips pulsate, others just have terrible interlacing problems.
Anyone have any ideas on a clear workflow? I am looking for a solution to the PAL clips that won't interfere with the other sequences. As in, they will all mesh well on DVD.
If any clarification is needed please ask, I am probably talking (typing) out of my ass here.
Thanks,
Dustin
