PAL HVX footage in vegas

K guys, there is a topic in the HVX section about FCP with Pal 720p and the fact that FCP cant handle it. And ive asked how to get vegas to do it and realised i shuld be posting here. so let me ask a couple of questions.

Downloaded the Raylight HVX to AVI codec, works nice in vegas, but thats besides the point realy. Because in vegas i cant seem to be able to customise the size of the frame to my needs while keeping it 25p. I select 50i 1080 in raylight, not sure if its possible to convert 720P files into AVI but thats annother question. How do I set the project so its the quality of the HVX DVCRO and have the same 720 25p timeline.

As a soon to be PAL HVX user, i realy need to be able to edit the footage. I am starting a comercial on thrusday of this week, as in, 1 day from now, ooh god. So i realy wanna edit as soon as i can, with best quality i can.

Thx :love4:

The required settings are in the Raylight documentation:

For Vegas 6 you can use the HDV 1280 x 720 25p preset.

For Premiere you have to use custom settings: 1280 x 720, 25 fps, pixel ascpect ratio of 1.0, Video for Windows editing mode, Raylight codec.

And make sure you are using Raylight 1.05, the version number is shown in the Raylight settings dialog and also when you run RayMaker.

will the HDV preset reduce my footage quality? ie make it hdv, yuck

No, it only established the frame size and the frame rate. The codec (Raylight) determines the playback quality with the Blue/Yellow/Red setting on the Raylight control panel, which you can change on the fly. The Vegas preview quality setting is also a factor (but for playback only, not rendering).

The product documentation is at http://dvfilm.com/raylight

I am doing a promo vid for a studio, want to use 1080i, 25p. I have it in vegas, editing it, but i have tried rendering to file, ie saving, but cant find a saving mode that will keep asmuch quality as possible, but keeping the aspect ratio. id like to have a HD version so i can downconvert to DVD standard.

if i was to save for dvd what settings would I use?

If saving for HD what settings?

And if saving for web using quicktime and sorrenson what would be the best setup?

I ask because its taking allot of time saving just to get futile results, gigabites in size unable to play on my system or go on dvd.

Any help would be great, tell me how you have been saving your 1080 footage.:love4:

There is a tutorial for the HVX200 editing with Raylight here
http://dvfilm.com/raylight/raylightTutorial1.htm

I've had good luck with WM9 at about 6Mbits/sec, your specs would be 1920 x 1080, 25 fps, no fields. Download some of the sample WM9 HD files at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/musicandvideo/hdvideo/contentshowcase.aspx

for comparison. If your computer cannot play these samples full screen real time then you would have to choose a lower frame size, bit rate, etc. than what they are using.

Also look at the WM9 authoring guide
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/content_provider/wmvhddvd/default.aspx

Render a small portion of your movie first before settling on the output format,
that will save you a lot of time.
