Pakistani Earthquake

I can't believe the death toll went up that high. Whats with all these natural disasters lately?! Wasn't the death toll at 1,200 a few days ago?

thats intense.. I hadn't even heard about this..

I am also a bit weirded out by all the natural disasters going on... but it also comes to mind, maybe we have grown so connected as of late that we are just hearing about things much quicker than normal? who knows...

scary stuff

3 Major natural disastors in one year and they say the hurricanes are going to be real bad for the next 20 years or so.

The world is gunna end soon I know it.

There's nothing unusual about the number of events.

They may be affecting more people, but people live in different areas than they used to.

60 years ago, with the flooding of New Orleans excepted, Katrina wouldn't have been all that much. But there where a whole lot more people in the region than there used to be, and they had developed the real estate well beyond what it traditionally had been, so the $$$$$ damage was so, so much more.

As for hurricanes in general, what we've seen recently is nothing compared to the '40s, the '50s, the 1890s . . . and we've got a long, long way to go to match that kind of intensity.

This is why I'm not so lenient on movin out to Cali. It's calculated if there was a tsunami, LA would have only 1.5 minutes to leave.

Too many people + news spreading too fast = panic.

Take a class in meditation. It helps keep your inner balance.

I agree, but you forgot about self-awareness. You neglect nature, you neglect yourself.

btw i don't think there's anyone panicking, just confusion. ( o :$

Yeah, this earthquake does suck doesn't it?

Makes you think, why this stuff happens to the poor people all the time.

If talking about end of the world after a series of natural disaster isn't panic, what is?

I like the 'neglect' theme. If you neglect a girl for too long, she'll get even with you. Same with Mother Nature. But I don't see how earthquakes specifically have anything to do with it.

6 billion people on the planet means more people in the "bulls eye". It's just like an old boss of mine used to say "think of the worst thing that could happen and try to avoid that risk" So if you live where it WILL flood or the earth WILL shake the worst WILL happen.
Don't get me wrong, sorry it happen but...
I grew up in a time when your teacher could take the paddle to you, people drove in the right lane (not the left) and Saturday night meant a movie at the local drive-in.
In a word "Manipulation" is what it has come to.
OK I feel better, stepping down off the box

I love the Myan calender one, I can see all these Myans building the calender and one of them says "Damn I've had enough puttin this thing together already, lets go for a beer, 2012 is way in the future If they run out of calender space they can make a new one that goes to 4012!"

Natural disasters are a ***** and may or may not be an indication of end times, wait till the www goes down because of financially strapped telecommunication providers, then the shits gonna hit the fan!

As to the quake, it is absolutely awful! As to the number of deaths, I believe many of them were needless. This quake hit a 3rd World area, places where buildings have no structural integration and where mud bricks are one of the choice building materials. Because of that buildings many miles from the epicenter crumbled to dust, buring the people within them. If that quake had hit the US, Japan, or other western country with the building standards they have the deaths would have been much fewer and the distruction much less. Conversely, if Katrina had hit a 3rd World Country there would have been 10 or 20 times the deaths and distruction. So, this is a case of poor people getting a double whammy - nature and man.

I think the Mayan calendar ended about 400 years ago with the conquistadors. :(
