Paid Video Shoot...problems noticed in post...

Say you do a shoot for a client and they pay you in full the day of the shoot. Things happen beyond your control, like you get bad audio to work with or your footage is blue and so on.

Since you already have been paid in full for the shoot, do you give a portion of the money back to the client if you cannot completely fix the problems?

I am dealing with this now. I just did 2 shoots for a client. The first shoot was awfully lit. You could barely see the performers on stage. The audio that was being fed to me was awful too. A week later I did another shoot in a much bigger venue. The lighting was much better but ran into the same bad audio problems from my camera.

I hired a stedicam operator for the shoot and some of his video was blue and a lot of the shots were over exposed and needed to be irised down. I will have to use the audio from his camera to get me through because the audio being fed to my camera from the board was horribly overmodulated and I was going into the camera at line level.

My ultimate question is what do I do with the money I was paid? Do I give a portion of it back if I can't fix all the issues I am noticing?

You eat it and pay the money back in total...I can only imagine the client wants results not excuses
