*yawn* Please Tom...stop talking and go save the world.

Anyone catch the Today show interview w/ Tom Cruise and Matt Lauer? Well now you can.

http://video.msn.com

Link should be near the top "Tom Cruise tangles with Matt Lauer." The first half of the interview is just about War of the Worlds and Katie. Around 7:40 he begins to...well.

Why is everyone ****ing with Tom Cruise these days? Tom didn't 'start in' on anything; he was asked. Again and again. On top of that; Matt Lauer was attempting to put words in his mouth by repeatedly saying "So what you are saying is.....?" and Tom would be like "Nooooo. I didn't say that."

Why the hostility's brother's? Save the world? He was asked and then was answering. He wasn't preaching. He was asked his opinion and when he staed his opinion clearly (Even to the point of saying "FOR me....") he was attcked.

Come on dudes; don't buy into the pres junket. This is absurd; Suddenly he is a bad guy cause he's in love; haven't any of you ever been struck by lighting? So he practices Scientology; so what; it's his choice.

I say Matt Lauer was the one being an asshole; and for the record: I don't think Anti-Physchotic drugs are good either. The drug companies pimp a pill for every ailment we can find and so Tom is like 'WTF'?

Damn; u guys as bad as the press.

Stupid interview. Would be nice to hear more about WOW. I don't care about Tom's view on psychiatry. Matt Lauer is a douche.

I'm guessing there isn't a studio audience. A little too heavy a conversation when trying to promote a movie.

Warner Bros. dropped Homes from any furthur Batman's cuz this relationship overshadowed the movie. I wonder how stuff like this will end up being perceived.

I found the interview more boring than anything else. And there's something not right with Holmes just hanging out in the background.

I went to the Scientology website merely to get an idea of what it is... it's just a friggin' scam. There's no information of any substance. I'd have to purchase a book to get any info. Not sure how you can equate yourself as a religion if you make people pay to learn the religion.

I like Cruise. I hope he doesn't tarnish his star with his life choices.

I don't know about you guys but I don't care anything about these celebrities love life, etc. Except for Jessica Alba. ;)

Well, I can't till War of the Worlds comes out! I hope it doesn't suck like Jason X, :)

Well I wonder why Matt would ask "So what you are saying is.....?" Maybe because Tom had no defense to his statements besides "You don't know the history...you haven't done the research," and on Brooke shields, "And she doesn't understand the history of psychiatry. She...she doesn't understand in the same way that you don't understand it, Matt."

Please Tom help us freakin' understand!

The remake of "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest", starring Tom Cruise as Nurse Rachet.

Matt Lauer is ALWAYS an asshole. He's always abrasive, a know it all, and usually pisses off whoever he's interviewing. He ALWAYS interupts, and treats everyone like he's superior to them. He acts like he's some kind of hard news "hound", when he's really just an obnoxious, no news, asshole. Why NBC keeps him is totally beyond me. Not that I generally care one way or another what the political/social views of "movie stars" or sports figures are, (who cares?) Matt Lauer seems to always bring out the worst in everyone.

Matt Lauer may be a douche, but Tom Cruise, good intentions or not, was being irresponsible. Psychiatry is an inexact science, and there are certainly too many people throwing pills around instead of trying to figure out the real problems in the lives of their patients. I've seen it first hand working in two different psychiatric institutions. But to dismiss psychiatry out of hand as a celebrity who has a fan base that hangs on every word you speak is not a reasonable thing to do. IMHO, anyway.

That's a tough issue; here we all are a bunch of filmmakers with easily the possibility of one of us 'making it' one day (Think Napolean Dynamite or Primer) and one day someone is going to ask us a question and we'll answer it and all hell is going to break loose.

I agree with vjbrennan. I'm sure it works for some, but I guarantee the majority of prescriptions are just a result of greed and people's impatience for lasting solutions. If people were given a choice between a little pill or years of difficult self-help activities, which would they choose? ....Pfizer loves the answer.

What's interesting is that other countries (foreign to the US) do not have anywhere near the same amount of psychiatric prescription drug cases and nowhere near the amount of people diagnosed. A study showed that American children are diagnosed with ADD 1,000 times more often than children in other countries. Why is that?

How can American children be so different (chemically) than everywhere else? They're not! Yes, "some" are born with different chemical balances and that can cause ADD, health problems, and other issues. But as a society, percentage wise, America's statistics should not be any different from other countries. So the problem must come from the prescription happy doctors, prescription happy drug makers, and prescription happy consumers.

America is the richest country and, therefore, the biggest target for drug makers. I live in a poor country and teach at numerous schools. There's not a single child on medication and I haven't met any who I thought needed it. They are just kids being kids. I guess the poor aren't big targets for drug manufacturers and they don't need to convince everyone their child has problems. IMHO.

We're so quick to label a problem just so it's easier to try and fix. When we're sitting in the doctors office we want the doctor to say, "You've got 24p Pulldown Disorder and here's how you fix it." We don't want to hear, "I don't have clue what's wrong with you. And the other doctors don't know either." ....If it doesn't have a name then it doesn't have a cure. Right? We all want quick answers and, unfortunately, most think it comes in a shiny new pill. I had a "friend" who had psychologists and psychiatrists throwing all kinds of drugs at him (zoloft, prozac, etc.) and they even convinced his parents he should be in a mental hospital ($1000/day). He didn't start feeling better until he stopped taking the drugs and started clearing his own head, in his own way. The hospital has since been shut down and numerous psychologists (including his) were found guilty of malpractice. I'm sure this wasn't a random incident, they just happened to have gotten caught.

Because parents/teachers/whoever don't want to hear the kid is just a little stinker, so they give it a fancy name and load 'em up with drugs.

"Attention Deficit Disorder"? Give me a break. The kid is freaking bored. If I had to sit in a school (for instance) these days, and listen to the crap the teachers are being told to teach, I'd have some trouble paying attention, too.

Now, whether or not I'd be bouncing off the walls, I don't know. I guess it depends on the frustration level.

GJD - I agree. Kids sit in front of a TV or Xbox and they're hypnotized with mind jolting action. Sit them in a desk for 8 hours and their bored out of their minds. I think some people want 'Parenting and Teaching in a Pill Form - Teachers and Parents, medicate your child and you'll never need to tell him to be quiet again."

You also have to keep in mind that the American lifestyle isn't like anywhere else. It is literally a toxic enviornment for children. Everything from food, to television, to video games is poison for their developing minds. Sure when they get older they'll have to eventually take notice of these things. But I hate when parents blindly park their children in front of TV sets at such young ages. THE FIRST YEARS ARE SO IMPORTANT TO A CHILD'S BRAIN. It's when brain develops.

The TODAY show should give as much airtime to each soldier that dies in Iraq - or just one of the Iraqi civilians killed in the action over there. Oh, but that would be work.

My personal experience as a mother:

first day of day care: call from teacher because daughter got in a fight because another child took her hair bow. Scar still on daughter's leg, but we still have the hair bow, too.

*also in day care: wandered off the facility grounds onto adjoining elementary school by way of some woods. Whole staff looking for her. She said she was exploring.

AND-she thought it would be fun to play "Rescue 911" at the pool and pretend she was drowning, in the deep end. Even faked unconsciousness. Got kicked out of the swim program.

first day of kindergarten: call from teacher because daughter caught lizards while outside playing, put them in her pocket and they got loose when back inside the classroom. reason: she wanted a pet.

first day of first grade: call from teacher because daughter wont stay in her assigned group during class. reason: she liked what the other groups were doing better. later in the year, she pulled the fire alarm outside the cafeteria to see what would happen. Firetrucks came, that's what happened. Oh, and she got suspended, setting an all-time family record for youngest age to get suspended.

first day of second grade: call from teacher because daughter was whistling in class. reason: she was happy.

My daughter has also managed to set her own hair on fire by backing in to a lit candle. I got phone calls from her teachers every single year until she hit middle school. I figured the teachers were on drugs by that grade and jsut didnt have the gumption to get me on the phone. Is my kid a stinker? Very well could be. heh! But to me, she is smart, funny, quick to learn in her own way. Grace isnt her strong suit, but she doesnt fit the mold most people want to deal with. They tried putting her on ritalin, after having meetings with school officials. But that didnt go over well with me. Sometimes, it is the system that is the problem.
