Page curl/peel transition

I am looking to do a page peel effect in Vegas 10. This effect will be applied to static .psd images and I want it to look like a TRUE page turn.

The problem I'm having is (the image) is not full screen, however, Vegas defaults to applying the transition effect to the entire frame. I have tried every incarnation of Masking/duplicating the background and masking/cropping/track motion, etc. that I can come up with and the results are less that what I'm looking for. These are pages out of a magazine and I want it to look as much like a magazine page turning as possible.

Thanks forum dudes...

Maybe render out just the effect to the book/picts full screen, export, then bring it back in and shrink it to fit in your scene. Might be distorted, though.

Must be a plugin somewhere. Or, render it in 3D. Or film a live greenscreen book and roto in the images.

You can get it to be the same height as the page by 1) using pan/crop to increase the size of the image to fill the frame from top to bottom, moving the edge of the page all the way to the right side of the frame, and then 2) using track motion to make the entire frame smaller. The transition will only apply to the image as resized. However, if the page isn't as wide as the frame, then the page curl won't stop at the spine of the book.

However, you can probably mask it off by duplicating the background in the layer above the page and using a bezier mask to cover the page curl from the spine of the book to the left edge of the frame.

Thanks David and WJM...

David, I wound up doing what you suggested...duped the background and masked with feather. With a little tweaking I got it to look decent but not precisely what I was looking for. Sometimes great is good enough but usually for me, nothing but perfect will suffice.

I thought I'd seen a third party tool that did a 'page turn' transition for Vegas - one of the NewBlue FX maybe? I might be dreaming...
