Pag Orbitor

Hi; Has anyone actually used the PAG Orbitor? Rush said he saw one at EVS and it looked great, but I don't think he actually described its peformance. I know it's not a stabilizer, but I would like to know if I can get steady shots when I'm not moving, just standing in place. Can it do smooth pans and tilt? Also, how hard is it to hold for relatively long periods of time (e.g. an hour at a time)? Thanks for your help. Henry

Never seen one live but it looks very much like the DvRigPro.
It also doubles as a battery holder and provides independent pan and tilt movements around the camera axis rather than relying on your body's movements for that. I'd like to hear an opinion from somebody who used both (Orbitor and DvRigPro).

I've not used the Orbitor but I own the DVRigPro. The DVRigPro is a good unit for what it does. It's obviously not a stabilizer but it is great for shoulder mounted stuff. I looked at both units on the EVS website and they look almost exactly the same. the Orbitor is a little more expensive (about $70). Both are supported by a combination of the shoulder mount and a rod that fits into a belt around the waist.

Well folks, since nobody had any experience with the PAG Orbitor, I just had to go out and buy one so I can try it myself. It should arrive in about a week. I'll practice with it for a few days and let you know what I think. Henry

What a guy...trying something new for the good of the forum...:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I looked at that one too, but both it and the DVRig Pro look a bit bulky, and are also quite expensive for someone like me who already owns a steadicam.

Based on the input provided by DVXUsers in this thread http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=51511 , I decided to buy a Spiderbrace (can't go wrong for 65 dollars), but I'll be interested to read what you think about the Orbitor. I'll post my findings about the Spiderbrace as well, and if it doesn't do what I want, I'll get a more sophisticated system later.

HI folks; Well, I didn't have the system out of the box more than an hour when it broke-- the spring loaded suspension rod just snapped when I was taking the system off and it listed to the right. The rod just snapped. I'm returning it for a full refund. I've travelled all over the world shooting videos, and I've shot in some very extreme situations, but this is the first time I've ever had a piece of equipment break. And I was home sitting on a soft couch when it happened. No rough handling. I'm going to order the DVRIG Pro and hope that it's more rugged. Henry

I can't imagine the support rod snapping on the DVRIG Pro. I've used it quite a bit with no problems. One thing, though. Be careful when releasing the spring loaded portion of the rod as it will fly like an arrow if it slips. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) You'll see what I mean when you get it.

Yeah, I've got an EngRig and all of its parts are top-notch. Use it with an M2-equipped DVX, which weighs in at around 11 pounds depending on the lens I'm using. Many others on here are happy with their DVRigs; I'm guessing you will be, too.

Hi Jason,

Can you post a photo of your EngRig, M2, DVX set up.

Danny.

Hey guys; My DVRig Pro just came. It took just minutes to set up (unlike the Orbitor), is lighter than the Orbitor, and it worked like a charm. It took just a few minutes of practice to get some very good shots. I shot mostly on wide angle, and the shots were very steady. I was even able to get some relatively stable shots zooming in most of the way. I'm sure I will get even better shots with practice. To tell the truth, it was thrilling to feel the freedom of being off the tripod, being able to shoot more spontaneously, and still getting very acceptable shots. I highly recommend it. Henry
