After months of shopping i finally did it. I bought a Dvx100a yesterday. I am stoked about getting out there and having some fun. I was looking for some advice, tips, tricks, anything you wish you knew when you bought the camera. I am filming a pilot in august, so I need as much help as i can get.
Thanks-

Just go out and shoot stuff. Anything everything, your friends being dumb anything. you will learn more stuff shotting stuff than anything elts. Don't be scared about trying new things when you shoot and don't worry its going to look like crap.

exactly!

not that you shouldnt be asking questions, there is lots to learn here, but to many ppl (myself included) buy the camera and immediatly come asking for the most general advise anyone can give them

my general advise? Go shoot! tomorrow morning take that camera out! I garrentee(?) you will come here tomorrow night saying 'you know this and this? well i cant get it to do this. any advise?'

you will understand your camera better and get better more useful feedback

GOOD LUCK! :D

I'm liking this thread. Having no idea what your goals are with your camera, I'm with everyone else-- shoot, watch, form opinions, then do it all over. If your emphasis is learning to do it all, then focus on your writing and directing skills. I'd rather watch a good movie on VHS than a bad one on film. If your emphasis is cinematography, run, get a line of credit, and purchase and learn to use grip + lighting equipment. 90% of cinematography is knowing how to manipulate and control light. Any body can push a button on a camera. Good luck!
