I'm putting subtitles on a film in FCP for a foreign film festival. My question is about how to time them out.
When I do normal titles, I go by the rule of thumb that you leave them on for the amount of time it takes you to read the titles in your head, but with sub-titles it feels like it should be different. There needs to be time to look up, down, read and back up again and maybe even back down again. The 3x silent reading time doesn't seem quote right.
Is there a rule of thumb about this?
