P2 User Seeks Tape VariCam Workflow Hint

Hey guys,

It would be awesome to hear any advice you may have on this.

Here's my shout:
After working with P2 a ton for the past 5 years, I feel really fluent in DVCPRO-HD, but I'm having an issue with footage from a tape-based VariCam.

23.98 footage is still showing up as 59.94.

Final Cut Pro 7 should remove the duplicated frames when I capture over FireWire. I hard-checkmarked the "Remove Advance Pulldown/ Duplicate Frames box in my Capture Presets. I'm using the Apple-reccomended "Panasonic DVCPRO-HD 720/24" preset. Final Cut Pro documentation points that the frame removal is supposed to happen automatically, but it is not happening.

Thanks in advance!
Andrew

WOW. SOLVED.

It was the tape-based VariCam color bars that were throwing us P2 users for a loop!

We found the color bars are always recorded 59.94 (60p), no matter what framerate the actual footage is. Ugh. Final Cut Pro 7 was reading the head of the tape-- which is the 59.94 (60p) color bars-- and "locking in" that frame rate for the rest of the tape.

Man, the footage out of the VariCam looks great. But capturing Tape feels very clumsy compared to P2.
