P2 select doesn´t find clips

I had this working on the trial version on my desktop machine. Now I got my dongled version today and first installed on the laptop.
I installed 4.13, the P2 drivers, the P2 viewer. All works fine. I can watch clips in the viewer perfectly, Audio and all is here. I can also call the P2 Viewer from within Edius and it works fine. The clips are there fine.

When I open P2 select in Edius 4.13 it doesn´t show me the clips. I tried via the card and I tried it with the card being dumped to the HDD. P2 select sees the card and gives me its number, but it won´t show any clips. I cannot import clips, only video or audio.
When I import the whole directory from the HDD (the one with contents and lastclip.txt) then again no clips. Only Icon, Audio and Video. And yes I do import the "root" dir, the one above "contents".

Is there something I need to change with 4.13?
I don´t dare updating the "big machine" until I solved this.

Ok I have tested this now more.
I can play audio and video that are from P2. I can read the mxf files, but I cannot import the xml files (clip directory).

P2 select starts normal, and when a P2 card is in the PCMCIA slot it is recognized immediately but no clips appear. Same when the card is dumped to a HDD. It never shows any clips. I gave it 10 minutes now in case there is a delay, but it never changed status.

any help appreciated.

I am now in a hotel so don´t know if my desktop behaves the same under 4.13.

When using P2 Select, you don't deal with any directories. You use the P2 Select tool, it shows you the clips that are on your hard drive, and you select the clips you want and tell it to import them to the bin.

If you're trying to navigate into various directories to find individual MXF files, you're doing it the wrong way. You don't want to do that. Just use the P2 Seelct tool.

But it says Add directory. And even if I don´t do anything and it shows me the Card (with its ID number) it doesn´t give me any clips in it. I refreshed the card and all, but nada - zing - null. I don´t try to select anything there.

That is weird. Have you tried adding a folder and seeing if you have access to clips on your HDD. And to be sure, you navigate to just above the "Contents" folder. Don't navigate into the contents folder. The other thing to make sure of, is that you formatted the card in camera, then stuck it in your lappy's PCMCIA slot, and then install the p2 driver from your Panny disc. Even if you haven't installed this driver, you may still be able to view the card, etc. But you won't have proper access to it.

Other than that, it sounds like you might want to do a fresh install and upgrade to 4.03 first. Verify if it is working, and then up to 4.1 or whatever. I am using the latest version of EDIUS Broadcast, and it works fine for me. Though, I started with the initial version of 4 and updated as they came out.

Well,

i guess that you are selecting something the wrog way...so lets get that clear:
You allready copyed the "cards" to your HDD, lets say first card into folder "Card_01".

Now you open "P2 select", choose the direction (click on folder "Card_01") andyou will see all the clips from that card on the right side of the p2 select.
Now you go on the right side, select one or all clips and click(i guess, edius is not open now here..)"select clips"/or import clips...this way edius will tell you how many clips you imported.

If you follow this descrotion in detail, and it doesnt work, then you mixed something up, or the p2-select is broken in v 4.13...but this would be very surprising to me...!

Report us back please...!

No. P2 select doen´t give me clips on the right side. When I open it up without the card in the slot it asks for a directory. So I gave it the one made (card_01). I am not pointing at the Contents directory.
But even with a card in the slot it does immediately recognize the card and gives me 2 inserts on the left: F:\ and the card name (some digits which ID the card). But the window on the right stays blank. No clips. I can watch from card and HDD in P2 viewer and I can import the Videos from the Video directory of the card via drag-n-drop from Explorer. But I cannot see and import clips with P2 select.
I installed the original version 4 and then got the update from Canopus and installed 4.13 over it.

On my desktop I have the trial (4.03 I believe) and there I opened a whole directory with many cards in it. It worked fine there. Here on the Laptop I cannot even do that, because Edius will not add the Clip directory from the P2 structure. Weird huh.
I am editing without audio at the moment here. Made some killer shots today.....;-) Skiers being followed by a helicopter.

I think you need to re-install the original version. Then upgrade to 4.03. See if it works. If it does, you can either stay there, or upgrade to 4.13 from 4.03. I have 4.13 and it works for me. But I started with 4.01 or something, and did each update as it came out. There could be a problem with a direct upgrade to 4.13, so try upgrading to 4.03 first and see if it works.

will do. I didn´t bring the CD for this shoot though. I guess there is no rollback possible. Try it on sunday and let you guys know. thanks.

Positive: I just found out the trial will simply be unlocked with the dongle on my big machine. So at least I know when I get back it will work. Now I only need to do a rollback on the laptop and find out which version does what.

ok, got the CD. uninstalled Edius. Re-Installed the version on the CD (4.0broadcast) and no upgrade at all. Same problem. So it was not the 4.13 or any upgrade path I chose.

Why would edius not allow me to import xml-files? Again: Even if I try to "Open Folder" to import a whole directory-structure into the Bin it will not include the CLIP directory. Only Audio, Video and Icon. It refuses to import xml-files (from the CLIP directory). I had a software called MSxmlParser which I uninstalled. I don´t know of any other software that would control all my xmls.

Does anyone know any help before I choose to setup Windows all over, which would suck.

puhh..that sounds weird....i still dont get it why any kind of XML-file-select should be included when you select your files in EDIUS...but i cant open EDIUS rigth now, so maybe its me missing something...i will see to make some screenshots, i am running 4.1 but there shouldnt be a difference in all of the v4.x of edius..!

Maybe it helps if yoou just do some screenshots step-by-step when you try to select the files and post them here, so that we maybe can figure out where the problem is...would be the easyest..!

I think it is the xml stuff, because in the CLIPS are xml files, while in AUDIO and VIDEO are mxf files. And they can be imported. But I need to sync them after then. So that is not a good method.

..like i told you, i cant get totally at which point your edius is not working fine...i never had to deal with the .xml files when i selected clips(despite the times when links were broken when you opened a project that you changed the directory of the footage..thats something different..)...so maybe you can post 4 or 5 pics of your selecting workflow...otherwise it will be hard 2 help you...!

I am not at my laptop today. I tried it now in the studio and it works perfectly on the desktop machine. So I do nothing wrong.

I do not try to import the xml as such. But when I should get the clips in the P2 select window they don´t show up. No error message or such stuff.

I think it is a problem with xml, because I cannot import xml (out of a CLIPS directory), while I can do so on the other machine. I will post screens later or tomorrow.

Hold on...

When you first open P2 Select, it will ask for a "P2 folder" - you should point it to just the drive of the card slot. For example, F:, G:, etc.

If nothing shows in the clip list, try right-clicking the folder (F:\, G:\, etc) on the left, then choose "Refresh P2 Drive"

If that still doesn't work, then something is very broken.
