P2 folder help!!!!!

Hey Guys in desperate need of help my friend shot on the HVX200A on P2 cards and we he inserted the P2 card into his laptop he dragged all files directly off the Card and All I have are folders with .xml, .BMP, .MXF files? How do I convert the data to any readable .mov file? Any one please help. Im running FCP 6.0.4, w/ 4gigs ram, x2 1.8ghx processor, 256 GFX Card

Didn't you import the files through FCP? Why are you just browsing the folders of your P2 cards?
 
First off, you should have created a new folder (name of your choice) for each P2 card dump. Each folder will contain the entire contents of one P2 card (the CONTENTS folder and the LASTCLIP.TXT file). Do not, under any circumstances, rename or change any of that directory or file structure.

Now, in FCP, go to File|Import|Log & Transfer. In the browser navigate to each P2 folder and select the whole folder, and the clips willl appear in the browser window. You can now preview clips and select which ones to import. They will be converted to MOV files and saved in your Capture Scratch by default.

Your original MXF files will not be affected, but do not "delete" clips from the L&T browser, or the originals will be deleted. Just use "eject".

In the future, always know what your workflow will be before you shoot...know what you need to do to get the footage off the camera and into your NLE. And if it will even work.

Once knew of a guy that shot 13 episodes of a TV show with the JVC 720p HD camera before he found out that support for that camera didn't exist yet...no NLE could handle it at that point (few years ago).

I've been using a product recently and it has been working out nicely. ShotPut P2 is the name of the app, and it's cross-platform. It works much better than just dragging-and-dropping.
