P2 Files - Log and Transfer in FCP6 Issue

Hello, I just recently upgraded from Final Cut Studio (FCP5) to Final Cut Studio 2 (FCP6)
I'm having an issue in Final Cut Pro with the "Log and Transfer" window.

When I go to the "Log and Transfer" and add a directory, I click on the "CONTENTS" of the folder and click "Add" nothing happens.
I've tried adding the "VIDEO" folder as well and nothing.

Now, I can still open the MXF video file inside the "CONTENTS" folder in the Final Cut Pro Viewer Window.
So I know my video clips are not damaged. I would like to use the "Log and Transfer" to be able to Transcode to ApplePro Res.

Did I do something wrong during the upgrade process...was a codec possibly over written?
I tried re-installing the P2 driver from the Panasonic website, but nothing.
...BTW, It was working perfectly fine in FCP 5.0

System: Apple MacBook Pro 2.6ghz, 4gb's of ram, 11gb's free on HD. Intel based.

If anyone has any suggestions...I would love to hear them.
Thanks

Are you on a network and do you have network drives mounted? I noticed that that tends to make the clips not show up for like 2-3 minutes.

FYI, you cannot use Log and Transfer to convert DVCPRO HD P2 to ProRes. DVCPRO HD comes in as DVCPRO HD. Only AVCIntra can convert to ProRes....and AVCHD.

You might consider reinstalling FCP...only FCP...on top of what you have. And if this doesn't work, then installing things fresh. Sometimes an upgrade install doesn't work properly, things are missed. I always erase my drive and install a fresh OS and then install the FCS disks.

What would be the advantage of doing so anyway? Not asking sarcastically either.

DVCPRO HD to ProRes? SLIGHTLY better colorspace for color correction. 8-bit DVCPRO HD vs 10-bit ProRes. You really notice the banding with some areas of 8-bit codecs, like smoke. I had cannon fire with obvious banding.

BUT...I work with DVCPRO HD as DVCPRO HD. I don't think you need to go to ProRes...you don't gain much.

Good News!!! It started working!

I realized that it takes FCP a little bit longer to recognize all of the clips...almost 3-5minutes.

I left my computer alone while I took a phone call and when I got back all my clips where loaded.

As for your network question... No, I had the clips loaded onto my internal HD. I forgot to mention that. I also tried loading clips from an external.

Either way, I know now that I need to give it a few minutes.

THANK YOU SHANE FOR THE REPLIES!! :)

We just started using P2 at work and I brought home a P2 card reader just to see how it would work with FCP. I use with it Grass Valley editing at work. After I hooked it up. I opened FCP and clicked Log and Transfer and all my P2 clips showed up on the screen. I then dragged one clip down to the bottom window where it says Drag Media here and it saved it right into my sequence bin. I had no issues at all. Now I only had less than 10 clips on my P2 card though. I didn't have to click add directory or contents or anything like that.

As you answered no to Shane's questions. This seems too long. I can copy a p2 folder from a full 64gb onto my local drive and as soon as I direct log and transfer to that location, its there. No wait. I suspect you still have an issue.

Mac Pro & FCP Log and Transfer Issue

Mac Pro & FCP Log and Transfer Issue

I'm re-visiting this post because I'm having the same problem with my Mac Pro tower that I did on my Mac Book Pro.
I have a G-Tech G-Drive plugged in via e-Sata and when I go and add the folder to the Log and Transfer window it takes an awful long time for the program to recognize the folders.

It takes roughly 5-7 minutes to load the clips into the "Log and Transfer" window. In the past, I've been on machines that recognize the files right away and can see the footage.

Does anyone know why this might be happening?

System Specs: Mac OSX 10.5.8, Apple Mac Pro 3.0ghz Quad Core, 4GB Ram, 3x 1TB Hard Drives, G-Tech G-Drive 1TB (where footage is stored).
Folder Structure: G-Drive>PROJECTNAME>DAY01>REEL01>NO NAME>Contents & Last Clip.txt
