P2 file footage to FCP X? Help!

I have P2 footage from an earlier project that I need to edit into a new project that I'm edting on FCP X (10.0.7), but when I try to import from my external portable HD, it doesn't recognize the MXF file structure. What are the steps I need to take to import P2 footage? Any help would be appreciated greatly since I'm under a strict deadline...I thought this would be easy. Thanks! Dave

Do you still have the original structure of the P2 cards? At least FCP7 needed this for log and transfer...

Hey Stonecrest,

With P2 MXFs and FCPX, you can't just import like most other footage types. You have to use the FILE/Import Camera function and also have to have the P2 Folder structure of 6 folders (video, audio, clip, icon, proxy, voice) plus the lastclip.txt. In that function, you can choose a camera if it's connected or a camera archive, which would be your external harddrive. FCPX should import and transcode the P2 MXFs to some flavor of quicktime that it likes.

If FCPX won't import it for some reason like missing the lastclip.txt etc., you might try using Raylight for Mac to create .mxf.mov reference Quicktime files that FCPX can import like any other movie file. You can check it out and demo here: http://dvfilm.com/raylight/mac/

Hope this helps.
