can someone point me to a thread on doing 720/24pn in Vegas. i've been doing SD in Vegas 8 via firewire. is there anything special i need to do for capturing HD in Vegas. all i want to do is capture 720 just like i captured 480.

thanks

You can't. Vegas doesn't allow it. So you need either a hardware solution (like a BlackMagic Intensity Pro) or a software solution (dvfilm.com's Raylight).

Raylight does not permit live capture, you have to record to P2 cards or a firestore and then connect one of these devices to your computer. If you need more details contact DVFilm.com support

I don't understand what you mean by "live capture HD from the P2 card". If you really mean live capture into Vegas, a P2 card wouldn't be involved (if Vegas actually did capture directly through P2 cameras, which I understand it doesn't...)

Using P2 isn't the same as capturing from tape. From tape, you have to play the tape and capture as it plays. You don't do that with P2 -- the video is already in ready-to-edit files on the card, which acts just like any other kind of memory card. All you have to do is use those files in Vegas. There's no "capturing." You're just using files.

But you need Raylight or some other software add-on in order to do it. There are a few available, though most people use Raylight.

ok, that clears it up for me. i thought i could play the video on the P2 card and capture it in Vegas like from a tape. Barry told me that i need Raylight. i got it now.
sorry for the confusion.
