P+S Technik Intermediate lens

I was wondering if anyone knew any specifics about how the P+S Technik Intermediate lens for Canon XL cameras works.

Right now I have a homemade 35mm adaptor and well...its a beast. So Im looking for ways to make it shorter.

I realize that I probably wont be able to create one, but what harm would a little education do me?

Thanks.

As I know, "old" letus FE used modificated Minolta 50mm F1.7 lens, that would be mounted at the appropriate focal distance. But that way you get 2x magnification factor, so it would be better to go with 35mm ( 28mm would be probably too wide )..and don't forget that those are lot more expensive at f1.8..

But, you will need the longer tube/distance to get focus, which can be archieved with "flip path".. and you will be in big trouble to make the flip that is compat size..

So, I wouldn't recommend you DIY, beter look for cheap used LETUS XL adapter, and modificate it later, as you wish...

I think all the intermediate lens does is replace the XL2/XLH1 etc etc 's own lens and allow it to focus on the ground glass. Without the adapter installed, the intermediate lens is not capable of focusing on anything more than three inches or so away. As there is no need to focus on distant objects, a massive lens is not necessary....

Thanks. I never really fully expected to be able to create a relay lens on my own. But thanks for the information.

I just noticed this on their site:

So the reason they can make that so small is all due to the flip module?
