OZ

Just started showing season 4 here on the UK, where it goes out in the early hours on a smaller network. Is this the most violent/obscene show on tv ever? I don't know  what to make of it yet there is something compelling  about it that makes you watch.

There is so much violence and murder surely a place like that would be shut down and the show itself doesn't seem to have anything profound to say about the prison system in the states.

Best actor in it is J.K. Simmons as the Aryan leader Schillinger-nice irony he also plays the Psychiatrist in Law and Order. Specially liked the story of aryan nazi having a black guys gums transplanted into his mouth unknowingly and the debate about his 'purity' that followed.

Whats it shot on? Looks like S16-very gritty and bleached out.

Re: OZ

I dont think they do anything special to the film, the prison set is just all shot w/florescents. Great acting, cinematography, and writing, which I think lead the way for the Sopranos, CSI, 24, etc. for moviebudget-like television. I hated to see it end.

As for the violence, its for entertainment purposes, really(I think what storylines happens on one episode would probably take months in real life.)

Lee Tergesen and J. K."Get me Spiderman!!" Simmons are easily the best actors on the show, although if I could shoot my first film with an actual budget, I'd hire Dean Winters right away. He's so cool on this show and I'm surprised he hasn't made it huge in Hollywood yet.

Well, it definitely is not for kids. If people were watching and expecting Hogan's Heroes or something like that, reality check:Life in prison SUCKS, and if anything, I think the show educates the public on what really goes on inside prison all the time, and if little things on this show scare you, well--don't break the law!!
