Own a DVX? Live in L.A.?

Hey guys and gals in the greater Los Angeles area.

I answered a post under JOBS for DVXUser member DESMAN asking for some "donated" time and help from DVX owners to lend a hand in a multi-camera shoot.

http://www.dvxuser.com/cgi-bin/DVX2/YaBB.pl?board=Jobs;action=display;num=1107449576

He invited me down to Hermosa Beach this afternoon, where I met him for the first time, and I sat in on a rehearsal with all of his actors as they read through the script.

I brought my DVX and just rolled while they rehearsed, so I could get comfortable around them, and to see how comfortable they were with a camera hovering around.

It's a great little story, with some really talented actors. The whole setting is a group couples therapy session with a successful doctor running the show. He wanders around and asks questions while all the characters sit in a semi-circle and hash out their differences.

Everyone seemed so comfortable with their roles, I forgot they were acting, and I felt like a fly on the wall of a real therapy session. The characters come from all walks of life, and the story is clever and funny, and almost has an unscripted improv vibe to it.

The reason I am posting this here is in hopes that more people see this, and perhaps get excited about jumping on board. If you live in the Los Angeles area and own a DVX100 or 100A and have some free time to help out DESMAN, follow the link above for more details. Or respond to this thread and I'll have desman check it out.

Thanks,
Tony

Oh and I HAVE to tell a little story...One of the actors threw a hissy fit over nothing today and walked off the project. I nonchalantly hit the record button on the DVX and caught the whole thing on tape.

Since the actor had already signed a release form to use his likeness associated with this project, with desman's permission we're going to post the clip as a warning of what to watch out for when hiring an actor.

With that tone?

It's all in fun Pookie. Don't take it so seriously. I doubt we would really do it. I've seen the softer side of Pookie. I know you laugh too.

Well, back on topic. This post isn't about upsetting people, it's about helping a fellow filmmaker.

Re: Own a DVX? Live in L.A.?

I already replied to him a few days ago.  I am shooting my buddies short up untill the first of march, but after that I am going to try my best to make it for this.  (Gotta a pretty hectic schedual, looking into it right now...) Nice to see other commited people- see ya there

The rehersal sounds cool, I'll try and make it out to one.

Re: Own a DVX? Live in L.A.?

btw antOmic, glad you had a good time with the shoot, I was only bitching about the last two paragraphs.

You found a good way to get experience.

Re: Own a DVX? Live in L.A.?

Excellent Milo! But unfortunately, I think they want to shoot on the 27th of Feb now. A Sunday evening. And perhaps Monday evening the 28th.

Re: Own a DVX? Live in L.A.?

I'll try my best to make it, I'll ask desman to keep me posted on the final date/time. Still need to find out about the times that my Buddy wants to shoot, hopefully I can do both.

Thanks Pookie. I meant it to be funny. I didn't mean to sound unprofessional or offend anyone in the industry. I have just read a lot of posts here a DVXUser in the DIRECTING forum about situations just like that, and thought people here would appreciate that they're not alone.

And all the actors laughed it off because it got so tense today. They all thought it was great that I caught it on tape, so I was still living in that moment.

I hope no one reading this thinks any of my words have a bearing on desman's professionalism.

HA!

Times 2 plus 1. And got the gray to prove it. :'(

Re: Own a DVX? Live in L.A.?

Well antOmic, I've broken up some fights on set's between a few "name" actors (I'm not a little guy), tantrum's are all a part of the "business".

Re: Own a DVX? Live in L.A.?

But a real professional actor can be best friends at the call of "action" even after coming to blows. Not walk off the set with their panties crammed.

Actually, I believe the 27th and 28th is the only time he can get all 15 actors together at once, but there's going to be plenty of pick up needed and one on one interview shots to do as well. So, perfect.

Hey, I create art for movie posters and billboards. What do I know...

I only have to deal with still images of them. Thankfully.
