Owen Wilson... Attempted Suicide?

I like Wilson very much as an actor, and am usually more likely to see something, if he's in it.

But, that having been said...

This is

nobody's business

nobody's business

nobody's business

except for Wilson, his family, and perhaps some number of people who actually know him on a personal basis.

Nothing to see, here. Move along.

sad max-

i agree. owen wilsons situation isnt anybodies business. but, i think some of the chat is less about him and more about depression in general.

I should clarify. I was rather ham-fisted in my approach, and it came across as harsh.

I don't dislike Owen Wilson, and I wish him no ill. I hope he gets all the help he needs, and I wish him all the best. The days ahead will be long and difficult, and I hope he's the equal of them. I know depression, and I know what it can do.

I was reacting from the point of view of the people his suicide affects, though, and pretty much bringing up the thoughts they're no doubt thinking.

Having been there, I guess it's my first reaction to news such as this.

In any case, I can understand how I could have been taken as "pissing in the pool," so I apologize; it was never my intent.

I didn't really expect too many people to agree with me.

Well I certainly agree with you, David, at least in a general sense. The details about Wilson are still very unclear and it's really none of my business. Mental illness is one thing, but poor choices are another. I'm seeing this seemingly increasing trend in society that labels a person who makes bad life decisions as some kind of "victim of a sickness." And some probably are. But c'mon, whatever happened to personal responsibility?! Maybe this outlook stems from my belief in rugged individualism.

His publicist released this statement from him:

"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," the 38-year-old actor said in a statement released through publicist Ina Treciokas.

From his statement, it appears like this story might be true.

Well, then I suggest that we respectfully obey his wishes. I know we're not little teenage girls, gossiping over celebrities - so we should have enough respect for him to avoid talking about his situation as much as possible.

As Sad Max said, its none of our business; we really shouldn't be ooing and ahhing over someone else's problems. Think about it, if something like this happened to someone you knew, you wouldn't appreciate people talking about it, now would you?
