Overwhelmed

So I spent the last 3 months researching cameras and I finally decided on the Panasonic DVX 100A. Yesterday I got the camera and last night was my first chance to play with it.

Please tell me I'm not the first person to feel overwhelmed by the power and options on this camera. It seemed like there were more buttons than on the space shuttle.

In any case, I am going to try and learn it slowly over the next few weeks - button by button.

Re: Overwhelmed

I relate. Just ease into it. One of the easiest ways to figure out what setting does what is to hook it up to your TV and just flip through the different settings and see what each one does in real time.

I don't mess with many settings anymore. I usually test out a few different settings before shooting at a particular location (master ped in particular), but once I get going, I don't usually change anything. So the overwhelm wears off after a while and then it's just fun!

:D

It's a good overwhelmed feeling though; like the first time you get with 3 chicks at a time! :D

I too felt this way but have gotten fairly comfortable with the settings. More confusing to me are the NONSCENE settings. Like 24Peter, I don't mess around too much.

My main concerns are shutter speed, iris and Scene Settings.

You might want to check out the DVD that was reviewed at the top of the home page. But don't worry you will get it.Then you will like it .Then you will love it! And then you will be one of us! Have fun, a whole new world is knocking at your door. 8)

Re: Overwhelmed

Thanks for the support.

I have spent many hours with the camera over the last few days (even taking Friday off from work) and with each hour I get more comfortable.

We are going to shoot our first short this May so I have plenty of time to test settings and learn from my mistakes.

Thanks again,

Chris
