Overnight

Has anyone caught this documentary? It's on Troy Duffy, a former bartender/bouncer who Harvey Weinstein signed to Miramax.
He bought his script " Boondock Saints", the bar he worked in ( so they could co-own it together) and signed his band to a record contract. The relationship cooled, and Duffy was out of the Hollywood loop.

I saw this doc on DVD today. I'd already read "Down and Dirty" by Peter Biskind ( on the rise of Miramax etc...) so I was familiar with the terrain but damn!...

Troy - "When should I start gettin' angry here? This is taking too ****ing long and
everybody knows this is the best ****ing project in Holllywood and every actor
that reads it goes Oh my Christ"

Troy - "First of all, I'm Hollywood's new hard on.Why aren't they ****ing giving that
any credence.? Second of all, are we threatening as much as we can here" ?

Man I'm ****ing fascinated by this ****.

Sorry. It rubs off.

Cheers:)

I saw this in BB today but it was out on rental; I'd like to check it out.

Seems everyone I 'know' says Boondock Saints kicks ass! OMG! I liked it. It was definatley cool. Duffy must have really f***** up to not have a single thing going on since 1999 after this flick.

But wait:

Boondock II: All Saints Day (2005) (in production)

Just rented the doc from Netflix. I own "Boondock Saints" on DVD and always remember hearing about all the behind the scenes stuff that went down and how basically the first time director screwed himself bigtime.

This documentary is one we should all watch as it clearly shows how NOT to handle opportunities any of us could be presented one day. Troy Duffy deserved everything he got.

Hudson, you'll also notice your link to the sequel isn't relevent anymore, it's been taken down.

I highly recommend "Overnight".

I've been meaning to see it since I saw the first review. I have "Boondock Saints" and while I really liked it when I first saw it, it just doesn't quite hold up for me on subsequent viewings. But as a first watch, it was entertaining.

This Doc is great. And scary as ****. Troy seemed to have really bad case of big mouth at that time. But that could be the Doc director's editing as well.

The intereting thing was the filmmaker's interview in the extra feature. They were his friends!!! Man talk about insult to injury.

Well, you have to remember, they were friends who were hired to film him on his rise to the top, and he turned into a douche bag.

Remember the one scene where they ask for some money to, you know... live on, and Troy and his brother turn on their 'friends' like rabid dogs, telling them to eff off and stuff?

With friends like those... You know the rest.

As soon as Duffy started saying that crap, and whining like a ***** about everything, he got black-listed. The Boondock Saints was good, but apparently not half as good as the screenplay was. That was Duffy's fault. Duffy screwed himself-no amount of editing could change that fact.

The Boondock Saints is a good movie, true, but it had a lot more potential if it got the Miramax treatment it was going to get. On the downside, it would have meant probably a bigger actor in the role of Agent Smecker- That would have ruined the movie.

And John, don't get your hopes up on Boondock II. That's been "in Production" since I've been in 8th grade (three years)

It's a sad story, but he got what was coming to him.

Almost the opposite of the Robert Rodriguez story, if you think about it.

I just saw this last night. What a tool that guy is. Not only is Boondock Saints a Tarantino wannabe vehicle, it goes beyond that by being over the top and riduiculous to the point that highschooler's are it's biggest audience. Talk about your kitchen sink movies... and poor Willem Dafoe. What the hell was he thinking? In Overnight we learn that even Patrick Swayze turned Boondock down. How bad does it have to be for Patrick to turn it down? Ill let you be the judge if you haven't seen it.

On many levels, I can recommend Overnight, especially if you were able to sit through Boondock Saints. That guy was out of control. Normally I don't like to see people fail, but this guy had it coming in a big way. Never look a gift horse in the mouth, don't be cocky unless you actually have a good reason, and don't burn every bridge before it's even built (especially with your friends).

That script sucked and was clearly a tarantino rip-off. It was a good idea but wasn't fully there for me but considering the crap that hollywood mnanufactures it doesn't suprise me. Duffy was a moron. I can't believe a guy who wrote a script, who should obviously be more self aware, acts like that. His brother and the film crew were more sensible while his entourage believed every word he said. He had some serious self esteem issues that developed into meglomaniacism (if that's a word) with some serious misconceptions on achievement and power. He probably watched too many movies. ;)
