overlays

I noticed in Vegas (Sony Vegas 6.0 a) you can put a color overlay over the preview monitor screen at the lower right hand side. I Tried putting a red overlay and it worked good. My question is if there is a way to controll what clips you overlay a color because right now it will just overlay red over the entire project. Also is there a way to control the intensity of the overlay. Basically im just trying to put a tint of red over a certain specific portion of my project. What would be the best way to do this?

Any help would be greatlty appreciated, thank you.

Lots of ways to do this.

Maybe the simplest would be to pick the clips you want this effect on, then put a "film effects" editor on them. Disable everything but "tint" and then pick your shade and intensity.

Thank you David that worked great. One question however, when i applied the film effect to the clip there is a line on the clip in the preview screen (upper right, the line is about 1/4 of an inch going down) that the film effect does not cover over. Would you know if that line will show if i print to Dvd, tape or is it there to show the difference in applying the effect?

It might be as you say -- an area with no effects.

Try selecting an area within the preview window (not the whole thing) with your mouse. You should then see the FX-bypassed area within that selection.

To get rid of it completely, unclick the button above the preview.

I have another question on this topic. Once i put a overlay over a certain clip, is there a way to set the overlay automaticly so that it darkens/intensifies as the clip goes on and reaches a certain piont?
