Overkill?

Hey guys and gals, I need some help. I'm looking to get the Adobe Vid Collection (Primiere pro/After Effects / Encore / Audition/ Photoshop) and possibly adding:

Boris Red, Boris Continuum, Discreet Combustion, and Magic Bullet for editing music vids, shorts, and feature films.

Should I buy all of the added software or is/are there programs that I don't need because another one of the listed programs would take its place(does that make sense?) for instance I'm getting magic bullet because of the different preset looks(filmic), but can I get the same results from one of the other three programs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

..start out with just the video collection. you can do most everything through PPro and AE. if you really need more then buy what you need. IMHO.. it sounds like you may just be buying what you either want, or think you will need, but the money could probably go to better uses if you find that you dont need all that to accomplish what your trying to do.

I feel soooo guilty for wanting all these things, y'know. I definetly want to save money, but still cover all my bases too. Your help will go a long way.

I'll make this quick... We're in preproduction on a feature called Vigilantes - "Homeless kids are hunted by a ruthless criminal because of a stolen device they stole from him." Special effects -people walking through walls, bullets being absorbed into their clothing...

Is After Effects able to do these type of effects. Also looking for slo-mo, and for sure want to go about getting the "best" film look I can. What do I use for Titling? I've read in other threads about the ease of use in Boris because it works within your NLE and you don't have to import or export... Can you break it down for me iamloser?

What would you do? The feature is not heavily relied on for special effects, but when I need them I want them to be top notch, you know.

AE 6.5 pro is pretty powerful, and will do most of what you want, and do it well if its used right. I would do the titles in AE as well. I wouldnt really look into a differnt speciel effects package unless you find that AE or ppro isnt able to do what you want adaquately. by in large, i think youll be satisfied with their performance, as long as you have someone capable at the wheel. other effects programs may make it easier to do some specific complex effetcs without as much know how though. I havent personally needed anything but AE yet. the pro version also comes bundled with additional effetcs , and AE/ppro 1.5 takes so many plugins that when you actually need one, you can work with it through the then familiar AE /ppro interface.

dude I have the production bundle. It works perfect for me. My movies are fairly cuts and dissovles like most movies out there anyway. If I ever need 3d effects and composites I turn to my effects house buddies. You can diffently do alot more with the production bundle. What you can do all depends on you. Plus I got mine for 500 bucks student discount because I am a student still.

For sure going with the bundle, BS. I want to get into the special effects side as well, that's why I'm looking at 3rd party software. Have any preferences?

btw you rock BS, I've learned alot from your postings throughout this forum.

Haven't placed my order yet, but this is the first I've heard of getting magic bullet with the adobe video collection... Am I missing something?
