overiding timecode breaks in FCP capture now?

Is there a way to disable the feature in FCP that creates a new clip at each time code break? the only way I found the iMac would capture was with the capture now feature but it worked hard at each time code break(extra tape head wear I'm sure) AND it made a new clip. I want to log and capture but my tapes are riddled with time code breaks and the program is not allowing me to log and capture from these tapes. I have my first six hours of DVX footage, with complete log sheets and everything is overrun with timecode breaks--ideas? For the past tapes or for future DVX use/and set up to ultimately avoid these problems.

Go into "Preferences", under "General" tab. Un-check the boxes marked "Abort capture on time-code break". I would also un-check the box marked "Abort capture on dropped frames".

This will let you capture now with time-code breaks, but FCP is not going to like it and there is going to be a high probability that your will lose your audio sync. If you have time code breaks, you need to capture them individually to maintain the sync.

Yeah, FCP hates timecode breaks. Audio sync goes haywire. Best to avoid it whilst shooting. Otherwise you may have to just sync you footage up before editing. I often capture an entire tape in one go because I have loads of storage space. I then break down the footage in a rough timeline and perform any re-syncing.

I also find it is useful to capture every little bit of footage. So many times I have used a take or other footage which I would have never have thought usable. E.g. when the actor laughs during a take, but it ends up looking better and more natural that way.
