Overcoming timecode issues with 24pa footage

I'm having some problems with a tape of 24pa footage a I shot recently. I'm trying to import it into FCP but every time I do I get an error code saying "End of Tape Reached" when I try to log and capture or "There is no video" when I try to do "Capture Now." I believe the problem may stem from the tape previously being used to record 60i and me not properly striping it before using it again.

Is there any brute force way to get over this or will I have to reshoot the scene?

Just a suggestion....

Just a suggestion....

Have you tried dubbing the tape onto a new one and capturing from the second tape? It would seem to me that the new tape would only keep the desired timecode.

Would love to know if that works!

Just get a 4pin to 4pin Firewire cable and a second camera or deck and away you go...

If I can get a hold of a 4pin-4pin cable I'll try it. But I'm afraid the problem may run deeper than that. I was scanning through the tape when I noticed that every once-in-a-while there'd be frames from the old 60i footage in the middle of a 24pa clip. I think something got messed up in the recording process as it didn't fully record over the old footage.

Might try...

Might try...

I have had similar issues in the past where I was getting bleed through from what was previously on the tape (which by the way was the last time I ever recorded over/re-used a tape).

I would suggest first getting your cameras heads cleaned (even just try a head cleaner or take it in to be prof cleaned). Then try to capture the footage again or do the dub like I suggested.

I have found that if my cameras heads were dirty the problem would be bad but then I'd run my head cleaner tape and I was able to get the footage off the tape.

Hopefully this helps a little...
