Over-reacting?

I'm sorry, but I really don't have too much patience for folks who paint them out to be evil or using their powers for personal reasons.

i thought those were the two biggest advantages to becoming a mod. when you take out that you take all the fun away.

Thank God I'm black. Do you know what life would be like if I were white and doing action films with overt Christian overtones. Hell, I'd be considered an anti-semitic, Republican fascist with a movie camera in some circles without anyone knowing anything about my politics, lifestyle etc. No matter who the badguy in the film was, people would say "He's coming to get us with his DVDs and make us watch at gunpoint."

Nate, that's hilarious (and awful) because it's probably true. As i think you know, I'm agnostic and unfortunately I am naturally a little suspicious of religious types. And for some reason your "blackness" puts some of that suspicion at ease. What the hell is that about??? Some subconcious white-guilt at work? Yeah, I guess bringing up religion and RACE in this thread isn't very helpful lol. This is more of a PM convo. Anyway, Nate's a cool, thoughtful dude... Continue...

Secret glimpse into mod forum!

Secret glimpse into mod forum!

I know the incident you are referring to. respectfully, this is an acknowledgment that the discussion of users behind the scenes in the mod sub-forum is "different" when there is an expectation of privacy. i only bring this up in the interest of an open discussion. not to encourage further dissent. far from it.

so i ask, could this be the sort of thing that could help everyone understand the tone of the community as of late and its willingness to disregard the mods' authority in the cafe specifically? in my experience, greater transparency goes a long, long way toward fostering a more harmonious community. is there something here we can learn from to better the community, or am i talking out of my ass?

In the interest of transparency - here it is secret glimpse into the MOD FORUM:

 I am laughing out load right now. You've done it again, Jack!

When I first saw it I was thinking "My God! This is what I have been waiting for!" my thought process then became "They discuss knitting patterns in the Mod forum?" and then "Waaaaait! Larry said they haven't talked about me in there! Invisible? Impossible!"

And then I began to laugh and decided to give you the above play-by-play. :D

Also, I noticed a few discrepancies, but I don't want to be a negative Nancy. Ah, hell with it: the thread about me only has one reply yet 3+ pages. AH-HA! Now I feel good...and dirty. I won't continue. Good work.

Hahahahaha. That was sweet, JDS.

I'd offer my opinion on this whole shebang, but I frankly don't know what you fargin' icehole hippie bastages is complaining about. :-)

lol. i was wondering why i haven't seen ConspiracyPenguin post in a while. hopefully you'll allow his posts to be visible soon.

If you guys want to make me the bad guy here. Fine.

Sorry I brought it up. It was more about keeping this a good community than about the political nature of the site.

So Jason, I won't apologize for making this public. I won't apologize for speaking my mind. And in no way was I planning on conspiring against DVXuser. In fact I was talking with Mark about sponsoring the screening for Twilight fest in LA this time around. And have been trying to get more info from you to help sponsor DVXuser and advertise with the user. I was also heading up the creation of a revamped VFX fest with Raptor and Mark. Very conceptual yet.

So if that counts as conspiring. I don't know what to say other than I am deeply offended.

Matty, no one called you out or thinks you're the bad guy. You may not be aware of this but this isn't the first time we mods have been called out. Users have publicly called us out in the past, insulted us privately, and we've been called communists and worse. In my time as a moderator I've been called many things, so forgive us for not wanting to handle this stuff in a public manner.

We are pretty serious when it comes to people treating each other with respect. There's no reason to take this personally and no we don't think you're conspiring. Relax. :)

Who is making you out to be the bad guy?

Never said you should, nor asked you to apologize for speaking your mind.

Never said that I had a problem with this thread being public. (If I did, it wouldn't be here :) )

Never said that you were ever planning on conspiring against DVXuser, or had any intentions to do so. I specifically stated that my comments were general and not directed at anyone. Just the extremes that I have come across over the years.

I would say however that this post of yours is a great example of needing to take a breath and read with a more level head.

You are creating accusations and perceiving an attack on you where there were none at all. And, you are making personal that which was not intended to be so.

Later,
Jason

EDIT: lol, sorry didn't mean to triple team you, we all posted at once.

Matty.

I think, as has been mentioned here a few times as something that happens in the internet in general, you may be taking things to be directed at you that aren't. You didn't call anyone a fascist in your post I don't think.

You have to remember too that the few times we piss you guys off, or that you see fighting here or there or a mod step in or not - we get that 24/7. So I'm sure Jason is talking about a lot of different things and probably venting or voicing his concerns as well. Like a lot of people have been here. But I reread his post and don't see anything directly speaking about you.

We do get frustrated when we try - even post a huge mea culpa sticky at the top of the cafe and threads keep springing up on the same topic.

But I don't think anyone is painting you the bad guy here.

We're also serious about how Canon slipped up on the 5D MKII... but, that's a different discussion.

:B hur hur I made a post.

Jason, I would reread your post. It certainly sounded as if it was directed at the general people that make threads like this. Leaving out a name doesn't make it not addressed to someone who makes a thread like mine.

Considering this whole sticky at the top on where to direct complaints, and the content of your post was basically spawned from my post.

There is nothing left for me to say.

Having seen first-hand how a politics and/or religion section can destroy an otherwise useful and productive fillmaking forum, I totally agree with the decision to keep such things off of here.

Personal attacks, insults and bashing should also not be tolerated. In my opinion, it should be "Be constructive, be supportive, be respectful -- or go somewhere else."

As has been said before, there are plenty of other places to wage wars over politics, religion, or just about anything else. What's made this board great is its lack of those things.

Matty, this is a perfect example why we like handling things privately. There's too much room for misunderstanding to handle some discussions publicly.

It should be a public discussion. I was never out to bash you all, but to make note of the direction DVXuser has started to take. But the damage is done.

What damage?

And, for the record the new sticky in the cafe is not directly resulted from your thread... It's something I've been thinking about doing more seriously for a couple of days, and an idea I wanted to implement in some way for a while now (be it via email, online form, feedback forum, etc).

Your thread was another example as to why I felt we needed it and so I went ahead and implemented it now, seemed like a good thing and (to me) was interpreted as encouraging folks to speak their minds and not be scared to do so, and giving them an anonymous way to do so if they preferred. In other words... agreeing with one of the points of your original post.

But, it has apparently been interpreted as some kind of statement against you... so... I don't know. damned if you do, damned if you don't, I guess... in some cases.

Honestly, the way you are interpreting our posts is not the way our posts were intended to be interpreted.

As they say... be slow to take offense and slow to give it...

Is Nick talking in this thread guys? Cause I don't see his posts..

Mods take a break, I can cover for a while if you want\1
