Outputting to tape

My FCP 5.1 doesn't output to tape.

I have the dvx connected by firewire.

Is there a setting I don't know about?

Everything works, fcp seizes the camera and records, but nothing ends up on the tape.

Thnx

If you try and do a log and caputre, that works out fine? You can see video in the preview window and hear audio and all the like? That would be the first test I'd do, to see if L&C even works.

Then in your A/V settings make sure Firewire for both Audio and Video (and that its not saying "Missing") to either. Then from the View Menu make sure External Video is set to All Frames. Then back in A/V settings, last tab, see if you have "Different for Edit to Tape" turned on. You might have some weird settings in the 'different' part that could be muddling things up. I tend to just turn that off.

And of course, reboot everything (camera, FCP, computer).

Have you done all of that and checked all of those settings?

cheers.

#8 External Monitor Viewing.

Shane's Stock Answer #8:

A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv

Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.

Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video

Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV

If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:

1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.

2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.

3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.

4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.

5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices

6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed

If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

I have a similar question! I'm trying to print to video and keep running into a problem. I can get it wo work fine with my A1 yet at the same point each time about 8 minutes into the export to tape there is an odd beeping noise that is not on my timeline. I can't figure out where it is coming from. It beeps three times and then like a min later it does it again! Any Ideas??
