Outputting TIFF Frames For UPREZ

disjecta has so kindly outlined the steps to uprezz our wonderful DVX footage under the technical section. But I am using Vegas 5 and was wondering how you would go about doing this. I am not sure there is a way to do it within vegas without using some kind of third-party software. Anyway.. I would like to know this + some technical information on what exactly uprezzing is. I understand what it does, but is it only beneficial if you are going to watch DVX footage on a widescreen HDTV monitor? Anyway thanks for any help.

I use VV and FinalCutPro. i recently had use FCP because I couldnt figure out how to export tiff frames from VV. In FCP it was easy. Im sure there are some PC apps that do it.

Re: Outputting TIFF Frames For UPREZ

There are scripts available for Vegas that will allow you to export still frames, check the vegas forums under scripts.

Re: Outputting TIFF Frames For UPREZ

The best way to do this is find the frame you want to export, in the preview window change the prieview to best/full chick the file in the upper right hand corner and save. I do this all the time for wedding videos where I will grab frame shots and use them other places. I know the original question was uprezzing but with the nature of dv footage you really can't get shots like a camera. I don't do anything in HD yet so I don't know what the differences are yet. I also found that png files work the best with vv(i think you only have 2 choices anyway, jpeg and png)
Maybe if you saved it as a png then changed it in photoshop to a tiff it would work. My friend has an HD varicam and it takes great stills. but even with a $120,000 camera i still think your limited to no larger than a 8x10 without going pixalated or am I wrong.

This is taken from the actual uprezz thread, from a post by DVStory :

I forgot to mention that Vegas users (or any users for that matter) can also use Virtual Dub to render an image sequence by either frameserving it from Vegas using the free Frame server plugin provided by Satish at http://www.debugmode.com or simply by opening the Vegas rendereed video in Virtual Dub.

As far as I can see, the Vegas script that's in there will export the frames only as JPEG or PNG

JPEG is probably a wash, since it's lossy, but PNG might suit.

Um...PNG is lossless, isn't it?

That, of course, assumes you can batch the PNGs into TIFFs, or the uprez program will accept PNG.

Re: Outputting TIFF Frames For UPREZ

I just pulled a 1745x1080 jpg from Vegas using the HD 1080-30p project setting with .909 aspect and preview set at best full. very nice result.
