What settings do you guys use to output in vegas? I see most videos on the site are .mov so I'll go with that.... best settings? [small size, great quality?]
David means you to opt for the WM9 Format listed in your render options amongst others such as Mpeg, AVI etc. What David says is dead on. The quality you get out of WM9 (windows media 9) is amazing plus it has so many options within it itself such as HD, 5.1 surroud sound or stereo. Check it out. But i dont know about file size. I rendered a wm9 file even today. Duration of clip 4 minutes. 1024x464 approx resolution of render. The file that came out was 330 mb approx. LOL. Even mpeg 2 wont be that big. But the plus points are this format which is native windows media file (so ur assured that it will run on almost any pc) supports widescreen ratios etc. Smooths out the video a lil bit which is a good thing in certain cases. But i cant say that was a effecient size. But maybe because i went into the custom button and set the quality levels etc at best. And i set sound quality very high. Dont know exactly why its this big.
A good web compression in WMV would be 320x240, 1.000 pixel aspect ratio, 79% or 83% quality, 3 seconds per keyframe. You can get very small sizes with great looking video.
yeah i know but tell me something David, lets say u were working with medium resolution clips. Would u set your project properties at something like 1024x464 and the when rendering give a smaller render resolution but with the same aspect ratio ? does this work similar to uprezing ? Also i have set my project to the same size because it gives me that narrow cinemascope aspect. Does it help to have a larger res setting in the project properties and then render out to a smaller size ? Is this process like uprezzing ?
David.
Usually the first thing I do is cut the frame rate back to 15 fps.
What do you think? Too much of a quality hit?
First time I've seen the suggestion for cutting quality per centage back.
Will try that.
Getting back to the .mov question; wmv and especially wmvHD files are stunning when rendered from Vegas. However I never had acceptable results from Vegas when rendering to .mov that's remotely comparable to a FCP exported quicktime movie.
The only time I get good results is if I render to uncompressed and take that file to FCP, and then export to quicktime. Have you had good results with .mov files at all?
