hey all,

so, i finally got the hang of cutting HDV with vegas, and now i'm having some issues getting nice looking output. I've tried tons of codecs in vegas and squeeze, but no luck. you guys have any ideas?

If it was shot progressive scan the question of deinterlacing doesnt even arise.

Eugenia > where on earth did you find the h264 codec within vegas. If my memory serves me right (since im away from my workstation), it only offers h263 and not h264. Where did you find the h264 option ???

You can render as an AVC or WMV9, both of which are variations on the H.264 codec, and both are dandy, as Mr. Jimerson will tell you.

WMV9 is a variation of the H264 codec ? I dont think so. Because it is a part of th apple family. Its basically a quicktime codec. A fact which i very well know. But my question is where did EUGENIA find the H264 codec within Vegas. It doesnt show up in any of the quicktime sub-templates and internal options. Only H263. I dont think thta codec is in anyway associated to the wmv codec family. WMV9 is a variation of the VC1 compression. VC1 is microsofts latest compression technique for professional d-cinema applications etc.

well, i've been messing around a bunch with squeeze and vegas, using both H264 and WMV9, but i still can't get an output that i like the looks of. One of my clients does a sweet job of it on their site. I know they use squeeze. I'm going to email them and see how they go about it and I'll let you folks know the process.

No. H.264 is a codec/standard created by a panel of engineers who don't work for any particular company. It's a variant of MPEG-4, and in turn WM9 is a variant of H.264.

Apple has its own version, but it's not the only version, and Apple didn't create it.

Here's a pretty good overview.
