outputting as portrait

hi, I am after advice for a project I am doing.
I filmed a statue which is to be projected as part of a set for a play.

the projection is going to be portrait (higher then wide) and the plan is that the projector is placed sideways and the image is turned so it is the correct ratio.

What is the best way to turn the image? I am worried about the cropping and black bits being projected.

the final piece will be projected using powerpoint.

cheers

If projector is on side (check cooling issues) then you don't need to turn the image if you shot it with the camera on it's side as welll. That would be the way to maximize quality.
If it was shot normal then you can go into motion settings in FCP and rotate the image. Quality won't suffer if it's 90 degrees but you'll probably have to scale up to get the most out the image.
Keep black as pure black as possible. Color balance with levels to force the blacks down all the way. Depending on the setup this shoudl remain fairly black on projection and not show up.
