Outputting a widescreen quicktime file?

Hey, I"m trying to output a trailer for a friend for his film, the site that's listing the trailer say's it can only be 1.5mb, cheap bastards, anyway's his film is in letterbox, and everytime I try to output it comes out in a 4:3 size box with the video still letterboxed, I'm trying to cut down the size of the video so I don't lose anymore quality, My question is how do I output so that the quicktime file only has the video portion and cut's off the black bars. P.s I've already tried clicking on the box (stretch video to fill output fram size), and I've tried changing the output settings to 288x180 or 160 or whatever. I'm going nut's someone help

Nick, I had this problem too. I did the following although I'm not sure if that's the best way to do it:
- use one of the effects that comes with Vegas to stretch the video vertically at the preview window so that the black letterbox bars are pushed out of the frame - you're preview screen gets deformed (long, small heads etc).
- before rendering to QT, change the output format in the QT render settings (not the projectsettings!) to i.e. 288 x 180 using the customize format settings. When you render, mark the "stretch video to fill output frame size" and that function will squeeze the video back to the desired format but without the bars.

Check the movies BitterSweet and Arenahoj Part 2 at my website to see the results of this route (www.orphic.nl/odm).

Best, Peter
